Help with painting calipers

I've been thinking of painting my Brembo brake calipers on my '13 5.0
I think a $1,200 option should pop a little more than the subtle dull gray and dull red color. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and what were the steps taken to do it right.

You can get a kit or just use high-temp paint for a cheap solution, but if you want to do it right, get them powdercoated.

I might do that. I'm worried if I do it myself you'll still see that griddy surface under the new paint. I'm going to a hyrdo dipping place tomorrow to see if the hydro dip will hold up to the heat from the brakes. I hope it does!

I used a kit from G2. It came out good, but if I had to do it again I would use a Preval kit to spray the paint on. Make sure everything is clean. The brake dust is a pain in the neck to get off and I wound up using a dremel with a bunch of wire brush attachments to get it all off.

I used the VHT black spray caliper paint, but only after cleaning the calipers with their brake cleaner first, and a brush. Also did the rotors, although I should do those again, thanks to not knowing *exactly* where the pads would be... darn lil' non-black rings... But the paint I did get on the rotor? Did real good, that stuff. Works good. Sure, it's not as glossy as powercoating, but for easy? Heck ya. Seems to have lasted well, still looks as good as the day I did it 6 months ago. Way better than the... whatever that color is it turned into.

In case that helps.

Thanks for the tips. I've decided I'm gonna hydro dip them. Planning on a lime green paint, carbon fiber dip with the brembo decals in lime green as well. I gotta wait a little bit until they can schedule me. Stay tuned and I'll post pics hopefully by the end of next week of the finished product

So did you get the hydro dip done? Want to do something with the calipers...not just paint them RED.

I'm planning to do mine a custom G2 School Bus Yellow. A guy in the 05-09 section did the same thing, but Grabber Orange. He purchased red and yellow kits and mixed it himself until it matched GO. I already have a red kit, so I'll pick up a yellow kit and mix in a few drops of red to match SBY. I'm planning on some P-51 OD Green graphics with a SBY pin stripe separating the ODG and factory silver. Then I'm going to do the "." on the 5.0 emblems with the same paint, and possibly the GT on the faux gas cap.

Sounds like you have a plan! I'm tossing around yellow, green and even purple. Just want a little accent color. Want to carry the color into the engine bay and cockpit.

I'd do green or purple, then do the stripes on all the tribar emblems whatever color you choose!

I think yellow would really pop against the SGM.
