Hi all,
I have a similar dilemma. I have been doing track days for 6 years with an E36 M3, and last year bought a 2012 GT/Brembos. I ran the car completely stock last year to get a feel for the set up. I really dislike the OEM Pirellis, and found that while they were certainly better than what I was running on my M3, I found them to be terrible after a my second track day. I have replaced the tires with Conti DWS tires (245/45/19) for everyday driving (I live in Maryland and need to deal with light snow on occassion). Now I need a summer package that will work well for the track.

So many decisions! 18 vs 19, staggered vs standard. What wheel size on what size tires?? I am thinking of the RE11 (or possibly AD08), as these have had great reviews. But my question is what size tires and what wheel size should be used with the tires. So ...

Questions:
18" v. 19"?
255/255 v. 285/285 v. 255/285?
Wheel size?
255 -> 9"
285-> 10.5"?

Thanks for any help.

Rich

For you I think 18x10 all around with 285/40/18 would work great.

For a summer wheel/tire package, I'd recommend a square 18" setup. There are some good lightweight 18x9.5 and 18x10 options out there that would work well for what you want (Enkei PF01, D-Force LTW5, Wedsport TC105N, and more). As far as tires go, RE11s and AD08s both work well, but also look into Hankook RS3. I know a lot of people that autox these cars love these tires as they work well on bigger, heavier cars.

Thanks for all the replies. The overwhelming consensus is 18". Wonder why Ford didn't stick with 18" for the GT and the Boss if its a better set up for the track? Just got a set of TSW forged wheels for my daily all season tires, which look really nice, but will definitely look into the other wheels suggested, as well as the RS3's. I have seen them recommended, but TireRack comments are overwhelming for the RE11's.

Im trying to do an 18x10 setup for autocross as well. Do you know.if the AMR wheels would fit up front? Or do they not have the right offset to fit?

These are the SVE's but I ASSume the AMR's should fit the same. There is only a couple of mm different back spacing. 285/40/18 tires front and back on 18x10. If anything the centercaps in the front might have an issue with the dust cap.

Is this what you are running? 285 40 18 front and back? And is that pic of an actual car running that setup? Im trying to get out cheap without buying those 300/ piece wheels from Vorshlag. Only other option I've seen is the 2010 gt500 18x9.5. But I really want the 18x10 so I can put big A6's on in the future

Edit: found this link

And it answered my question!

Sorry to threadjack... just trying to ask some knowledgeable people about this before I try to do something and end up screwing myself with wheels and tires that don't fit

No issue with the dust cap here. The black 2013 above is my personal car. You'll be fine with a 285/40/18 all the way around.

Thinking about the 285/40/19's on some BOSS 302S 19x10 wheels with 255/45/19 on 19x9's. Was doing some research and found this thread, and was curious what the OP, or anyone else that's tried this size, thinks after running them for some time.

Strangely enough, the 255/45/19 on 19x9 and 285/40/19 on 19x10 is the factory tire setup on the Porsche Panamera GTS.

I think this setup would offer a better ride than the stock 245/45/19 with slightly more sidewall, while providing more grip with wider rubber.

I love the 285/40s but wish I could get some 305/35s.

^ I really wanted 305-35 as well but since there is no selection, I went one step lower. I bit the bullit and paid the extra money for the 295-35-19 bfg kdw. I'm putting them on my avant garde m310 (similar to rtr but better offset IMHO). I'll post up in here once I put them on the car. I'm about a week or two away from warmer weather here in Chicago.
