Why? I could see the validity if he were wanting to swap engines with the new V6 in the 11-13 model years rated at 300HP as the GT's were rated during 05-10. If you push 8psi on forced induction, you're going to net about 300+rwhp with the proper turbo and compressor map for optimum output. Well i have a 12 sixxer so its rated 305 from factory. With the right combination i could make nearly 500hp, still get great mileade, and keep daily drivablity

So this same argument keeps coming up and **** near always ends the same way as a v6 vs v8 slugfest. I look at it from strictly a numbers game.

Let's start with the v6 / v8 price disparity. From all the dealers I visited while shopping for my car, there is about a $9k almost. $10K delta in price if comparably equipped.

You will probably spend that $9k in mods including the SC to ensure your car can handle the power. Now you will have more power and be a little quicker than a GT plus probably get slightly better mpgs if you don't change gears, but you probably will.

My honest opinion is that if you're interested in mods, I would get a tuner, cai, gears, control arms and wait for the SC price to come down.

I have been to several shops and the lowest price I found for an install and tune has been $6400 and I already have an SCT tuner. I would wait until it costs about $3k. Plus you're really going to need a new driveshaft for $700. The NA mods will help with putting the power down optimally. So when you add it all up, it's probably a wash. However I wouldn't say it's not worth it. You can power build on your schedule and budget and make your car truly incredible and to your personal specs.

You will have fun with the NA mods while you wait. I think my car is **** near perfect as a low to mid 13 second car and I still get over 28mpg.

So far I have spent around $4k and still don't have an SC. However a lot of my mods are for show not go, so shouldn't count toward a performance goal cost.

I think the biggest argument for most 'young sixxers' is insurance. Regardless of if someone is able to afford the car, (before or after mods) you still have to look at the insurance cost. The big question is if it is worth it to spend the extra $$$ on a V8 when you could mod the v6 to the same power over time.

Imsurance is what kept me out of the v8. I had an 02 gt but i bought it back in 2010. Insirance wasnt that high if i remember correctly. But on a brand new $30k car the insurance premium was about 350 a month vs 250 for my sixxer

And that's a totally acceptable reason to go for the sixer in my book. If you plan on keeping the car for quite a few years then go ahead and do what you want to it. If you have plans to upgrade in a couple years then I would hold out on big mods.

Im debating actually. Ill have to see what my financial situation is around the 15 model year change. The fact that im insure is whts got me split minded about upgrading or staying with the sixxer. Gotta see what the next model looks like too. Orrrr i could try finding an 03-04 cobra. Thats my dream car there.

Like I said earlier, you can really increase your fun factor in the v6 with the intake, tune, gears and control arms. For right around $1200, you can take at least a half second off your 1/4 mile time. That will keep you happy until the my15 comes out. If you don't like it, then you should have cash saved up for FI or an 11-13 GT. If you do want to go to the new model, you won't regret dumping a bunch of cash into the 3.7 with no return on investment.

The issue is getting to 500HP. Great mileage is assuming you stay out of the gas pedal. I don't get good mileage stock, so I wouldn't assume good mileage with a SC. Bumping yours up to 500+HP is the same as boosting mine...it's at the [wrong] edge of reliability, unless you're ready to build the entire motor. In which case you'd be better off getting the GT.

True. But it'll still be better to wait over time and buy a GT, as opposed to building up a V6.

This! If you're gonna get rid of it soon, then why would you touch it and potentially decrease it's value?

It all comes down to money. If a simple supercharger kit isn't gonna put you where you wanna be for the life of the car, then modding a V6 isn't cost effective at all.

Wow Read most of that.. And I as a 2006 Mustang V6 owner and I just ordered a 2013 V6 PP. I have known in my Mustang circles guys who even took their 4.0L and had the engine totally rebuilt and put a turbo on it and was blowing away vettes. Why turbo charge or supercharge when you can buy a GT.... Ok let me rephrase the question, why did so many 2005-2009 4.6L 300HP owners supercharge their GT's?? Because they wanted to make their cars faster plain and simple.. Sure I could go up to them and tell them they should get a GT500 or even a older Terminator why dump the money into a supercharger.. For every fast car there is one faster.. I decided to get another V6 due to being a older family man who supports two families etc.. I could not afford the extra 10 Grand to get it how I want it. Sure I could give up all the options and get a base GT.. But really as a Daily driver myself I would rather have the extras the the extra 100HP.. Ahh to hear the GT purists say its not a Mustang unless its a GT etc.. Again look up what HP the past Mustangs made vs the new V6's. If when you bought your V6 and made it the way you wanted with bolt-on's ext and now you decided you want to make it faster because you have the extra bucks.. Do what you feel you want to.. V6..4 Banger etc.. Oh and last but not least.. Why do V6 owners get on the defense its because a lot of the GT owners have put us that way with comments of its a girls car or its not a real Mustang or why bother putting money into a V6.. Well I guess nobody should ever buy any Mustang from 74-98 because they all make less power than the 2011+ V6. A procharged V6 will be faster than a 5.0 for less money, it will brake and corner better due to lower weight and better weight distribution. Not to mention the obvious better gas mileage during normal cruising. Theres no V8 noise, however Centrifugal Supercharger noise is quite nice as well.

I don't recall anyone just coming in here to bash the V6. It's just simply not cost effective to do anymore than moderate mods. There's so many negatives to outweigh the positives.

And why mod a GT instead of buying a GT500? Cuz there's a lot more aftermarket parts for a GT than there are for a GT500. And no ADM's on the GT that commonly accompany the top model of any car. I'm sure I could think of more reasons, if we really wanna dig into it.

No one is saying don't buy a V6 because it's ONLY got 300HP. That has nothing to do with anything.
