Performance Help

Just lost a race to a beat up charger due to some lag on my take off. Its becoming more and more prevalent whenever I try to gun it. Seems like theres a bit of delay in throttle response idk. I just wanted some advice on how I can improve my throttle response and maybe take off quicker. What kind of upgrades would I be looking at and how much is this going to dent my wallet? Im not looking for superchargers or anything of that sort YET. Just want to make some cost effective tweaks (If there are any). Thanks.

Tuner really wakes the 3.7 especially an auto.
Short tube headers give you low to mid range torque without screwing up your emissions like long tubes do.

I'd go for a CAI combined with a tuner and an axle back exhaust! There easy to install and won't ruin your budget. You can get the tuner/intake combo from most shops for a reasonable price and there plenty of season offers. There are some discount codes around as well!

A tune will wake up your v6. Its common for a bolt on (cai, headers, gears etc.) v6 Mustang to win against a v8 Charger. Just saying......

As the others have said – a tune will sort out your V6. This is probably going to be your best value for the money. On my (former) ‘12 V6, w/auto, 2.73 gear. I had a Steeda 87 street tune that maximized bottom end engine performance. Transmission programming was set for different shift points along with faster/firmer shifts and the annoying throttle lag disappeared. The stock airbox was retained and I didn’t make any other modifications. No file adjustments were needed because it ran so well for the next 22,000 miles, then I traded it in for a GT.

have you tried a "controlled launch"?

hold down on your brakes and bring up your RPM's by even a couple hundred and launch! see that that helps you.

Just ordered an Air Raid throttle body spacer and next week im going to get new gears, I was looking at the Ford Racing 3.31 gears. I think after those two little upgrades I should get off the line quicker. What do you guys think? And I will try that launch trick next time for sure.

When I test drove the 2014 mustang at my local dealership. The only V6 they had available for a test drive was the base model (Automatic) and I ended up ordering a v6 (Manual) with the performance pack. And the difference between both cars are night and day. my car doesn't feel anything like what I test drove.

Those gears will help make your car feel more alive for sure.

Gears are a good choice.

Spacers and axel backs are a waste of money if you want performance. I would use the money from the spacer to put towards something else.

Great choices ... also ... the tune & CAI will definitely wake up the car & improve throttle response.

http://www.steeda.com/v6-mustang-col...take-555-3159/

Combined with the required custom tune using an SCT X3 Flash programming device we have achieved dramatic power increases of up to 20hp and 30ft/lbs of torque!

Let me know if I can help assist with one ... we offer forum discounts for members too!

Best Regards,

TJ

Yea I have yet to get a tune and did an Airraid CAI. Gained a solid 15 hp. I recommend tossing on a throttle body spacer as well if your not going to tune off the bat. It helps the CAI a lot. Dont buy any cheap ones get the airraid power raid throttle body. Its only like 120 bucks.

Tuners are Married to a car, so using it on someone elses will not work and most CAI do not require a tune.

I still consider the CAI an appearance mod, not a real HP gainer. You might pick up a couple of HP but when you go to American Muscle and look at the CAI Tuner combo most of the HP gain is through the tuner with the 93 octane tune. Putting in Premium fuel gives you more HP gain than a tuneless CAI.
Now if you go with a Steeda CAI you need a tuner, but there is a HP bump with that, but you do need a tune to run it.

Get a CAI that uses the factory air inlet (through grille) so it will actually pull cooler air instead of hot engine bay air. That combined with a tune, TB spacer and a decent exhaust set-up and you will have a new animal at your control
