C&L CAI heads up
C&L CAI heads up
There was a thread over on allfordmustangs.com where a guy was showing off his new C&L CAI and asked about a problem he had where it was acting like it wanted to die on take-off sometimes. He included some pics of his install and in one of them I noticed that there was a unused open hose barb on the end of the tube right next to the connector for the MAF housing. So this was letting unmetered air into the motor. I pointed this out to the guy and asked him if there was a hose not connected to this barb or a cap included with the CAI to block it off. He said that there wasn't one included and there was no hose left unconnected and that apparently this hose barb connection was only for auto trans cars but that the instructions from C&L didn't say anything about doing anything with the open port for manual trans cars so he just left it open. This of course was the problem he was having and I told him it needed to be capped off. He called C&L today to ask them about it and here is what they replied to him:
Here is a picture of the CAI and the open hose barb in question:

I'm sure C&L will include the cap for future CAI kits but if you have a manual trans car and get a kit without it then you just need to get a 3/8 vacuum cap to plug it off.
I decided to call C&L direct instead of AM, not that I dont trust AM at all, but I figured it made more sense to call the folks who make the thing. They were very helpful but get this.. They said Ford told them that Manual Tranny V6's werent going to be released, so the CAI is made specifically for an auto, and that Im the 2nd customer this week to call with the same question. They said the same thing that it's technically gonna be a leak and I could end up with a CEL. They took my address and are sending a cap for that open port. They said to get a 3/8" cap in the mean time to cover it up. Interesting tho.. Thanks a million for the heads up Ltngdrvr!

The GT is the same way, I can't believe they didn't catch that.
So now all manual V6 kits will have that ugly fitting sticking out of the side of it with a cap on it?
JLT's tube will be smooth with only the PCV fitting and a scribe line as to where to put the included fitting if your automatic. Much smoother look for both vehicles
