Something to keep in mind is how loud you want this. The shorties and highflow cats won't increase sound as much as long tubes and a catless xpipe, but it'll be significantly louder than stock.

You shouldn't lose hp, but most of your gain will be in the midrange.

and out of all the bolt on mods, the most you gain are from headers.

you're right, long tubes are louder. the most catless you go, the louder/raspier it gets depending on what you get.

Can such a gear change be done by myself? I am not looking for 4.10s or 3.73s but at least I'd like to change my stock setup to 3.31s.

you will have to get a tuner.

gear changes, tire changes really do have to be made to correct the speedometer readings.

Do a search. There's probably 100+ gear threads around here. It's all been answered dozens of times.

I have no idea as i haven't done this yet. Hopefully it will be my next mod.

But find a nice speed shop. $600 sounds too much. But ask around for prices locally.

I was trying to avoid putting a new tune in the computer just for a gear swap. I really don't want to void the warranty. I wonder if my local dealer will do the install and computer upload for new gear set. It would be worth the extra money if it doesn't effect the warranty.

^ wouldn't hurt to ask. Dealers are so weird. Some do exceptional things, while others don't care.

I asked my dealer to put 3.73s in my car. They replied "we are sorry, but we don't modify cars"

I was like really..

But it's best to get a speed shop to do it.

Getting a tune will only affect the speedometer to show the correct reading.

You will still get the performance from installing the gears without a tune.

I'll check with the dealer and repost, but I'm still concerned if I upload just the gear change on a programmer it will still void my extended warranty as well which I paid 1700 for.

yeah, thats why i haven't tuned my car yet.

Why don't you get headers, throttle body, h-pipe instead?

And then tune the car later.

But if your dealer is cool with installing gears and correcting the speedometer with a custom program or whatever, by all means go ahead because that will be impressive.

Gears are the best Naturally Aspirated MOD for our car. (so I've heard, yet to experience it). But i believe in that. Changes the 0-60 by 1 second FLAT!

I've done the gears before in other mustangs in the past and it's just the best bang for the buck. I'd rather do the intake and exhaust later.

I usually do that mod first myself, but I'm not hearing good results without the tune.

a tune enhances the mods capacity to produce max hp/torque.

But CAI's that don't require MAF sensors replaced, produce power on their own. The benefits are def there.
