Will lowering springs reduce axle hop?

I've been planning on lowering the rear with Ford Racing P Springs (just the rear- I can handle the ride height in the front, but the rear rides just ridiculously high). I've just been putting it off...

As I've gotten more miles on the car, I've started unwinding things a bit and have been introduced to axle hop for the first time. At least I'm assuming that's what it is- the car doesn't burn out so much as get going and then the back end feels like it is gripping/hopping/gripping/hopping (really annoying, and I can't help but feel that's not good for my 3.73 Torsen :^).

Anyway, if getting the rear just a bit lower can help alleviate that problem as well, I'll be getting right on it. If not, I might actually look to invest in something else that will alleviate the hopping (since I can tolerate the extra 1.5" of rear ride height more than I can the annoying chopping on acceleration).

Thanks for advice...
Pete

Lower Control Arms (LCA), Upper Control Arm (UCA), and adjustable Pan Hard Bar (PHB) and you will get rid of most if not all of the wheel hop. If you lower as well you might have to get LCA relocation brackets but only if you go down more than an inch.

Thanks for the replies and advice... What causes wheel hop anyway? Is the axle rotating back and forth or something?

yeah, pretty much, it the making and breaking of traction in quick succession as the axle tries to wind up against the pillow-soft rubber bushings, primarily in the upper control arm. It's incredibly violent, viewed from outside and can indeed break stuff. I call it traction...almost.

You can check out our products here:

For some ... the UCA fixed there issue ... others ... the LCA solved ... and for a select few ... they needed both.

This video was done by a consumer on youtube and it will show you the UCA in action:

Thanks for the vid- the link didn't work, but I get the idea. Will I need a new adjustable panhard bar if I install the Ford P springs (1" drop) and the UCA?

Oh, and is this something someone who is fairly comfortable hanging parts can do with a jack and stands, or should I just find a local speed shop?
