I have been wondering about tires to. I have the GT500 forged rims with the stock 285 Goodyear Supercar F1's. And they suck... I can spin everywhere.
Im wanting some more hook as well.
Any advice on a better tire thats not a drag radial?

if you wanna hook outa the hole....... you need a drag radial... or to use less FOOT on the gas till the tires you have can handle the power / torque level after you shift 2 second

A set of lower control arms and relocation brackets will help. Before that I would spin like it was wet out. It'll still spin but it hooks a lot easier now. I have Goodyear Eagle Supercar F1 285/35/19 rear. I had Nitto 555's prior to these and they hooked a lot better with the brackets and arms.

Drag Radials, lower tire pressure (20-25PSI), lower and upper control arms, lower suspension, and finally if all else fails, a good old sand bag in the trunk.
But if you want to start with the easiest, start with radials, lower tire pressure and weight in the back. Then start adding the suspension pieces and you should be able to remove the weight.

You guys with decent tires that still can't hook need to rethink the launch. Your obviously being much to aggressive with the clutch. I have an auto and the car transfers so well at the hit it will only spin occasionally at the top of first. When you shock the drivetrain it doesn't allow the car to transfer the weight to the rear and then you just spin. Try leaving about 1500-1800 and feather in the throttle as you release the clutch. I promise you will get faster launches.

You guys need to transfer that power to the ground and possibly upgrade your tires.
The control arms will definitely keep your back end planted for a straight launch. Here is a quick video that we did:

Let me know if I can help with pricing or answer any questions?
