Is "no-tune" CAI even worth the hassle?

I understand that the coyote 5.0 already have an awesome factory intake system in place, but is no tune intakes even worth it? I been doing some research and everyone seem to have mixed opinions. Some seem to think all no tune intakes are only good for sound, and some seem to think it does offer noticeable throttle response and some hp/tq.

I was looking at AEM enclosed box intake and airaid system, just until I was ready to get a tune, but if they really don't do anything for this motor than I might as well just spend the money elsewhere such as suspension or cosmetic.

What are you opinions?

We all know what Grandma says about opinions!\

Generally speaking, it appears most people here believe it's a waste of money.

No, it's not.......and unless you're after the "bling" under your hood, the CAI isn't worth the hassle with a tune, IMO.

Yes, it is...

Our C&L Performance air intake has shown 11 to 12 HP as a direct bolt-on BY ITSELF in a "no tune" configuration while still using the factory stock computer programming. We have found that the factory air intake assembly for the 2011-13 GT flows 748.7 CFM, which is a REDUCTION in airflow of approximately 50 CFM versus the factory 2010 GT air intake assembly, which flowed right at 800 CFM. This difference is due to the fact that the 11'-13 Mustangs have a single round throttle body that is placed lower in the engine compartment. The new inlet tube is both smaller and has a different airflow path, which makes it more restrictive than the one that was used on the 2010 GT models. In No-Tune configuration, our 2011-13 Mustang GT Air Intake System flows an outstanding 45% more than the factory air intake assembly at 1464 CFM.

Based off of this evidence and my experience with these intakes I can say that our C&L Performance intake is well worth the money in a no tune configuration AND later on you can remove our No-Tune insert and get a custom tune and gain even more.

Just let me know if I can help!

Thanks, Doug.

You won't be disappointed with the gains of a CAI with a tune. They go together like Peanut Butter and Jellly!

If your going for looks and a slilght gain then a CAI with no tune should be good for you.

Basically you have to ask yourself what is your ultimate goal?

Best Regards,

TJ

Has there been a poll done asking if anyone with a canned tune has experienced internal breakage? Please direct me.

If I tune, break, void warranty, wifey kills me.

I went with the Steeda CAI and tune and it made a nice gain throughout all rpm ranges.

I picked up 8mph at the track compared to stock. It worked flawless out of the box.

I was one of the first to use the Steeda cai on my 2011 5.0 and I would recommend it over the no tune set up.

I'm going with C&L either before or at the same time as I get my Steeda SCT. Steeda has a great CAI, but C&L's design to keep water out of the filter gets my nod.

Hey guys, we'll be at Track Masters Dynojet in Huntsville, Al this Saturday starting at 9am, if ANYONE wants to come out and do a before and after dyno with the air intake only just to show you the gains we will cover the dynotime.

If you want we'll stand to the side and let you swap it out and do everything yourself just as you would do it as a customer, or of course if you want us to we will do the install.

IF you don't see a gain with the C&L air intake installed we will pump you a tank full of 93 octane, buy you lunch and thank you for your time.

IF you do see a gain from the installation of the C&L no tune required intake then the debate is settled.

Either way we would want you to post your TRUE results from the testing from that day.

Any takers??

Call Lee at 256-882-6813 or Doug at 205-285-9360

Thanks!!

I'm going to go with C&L. I will let you guys know my first impression. All I have is AMT cat back. I know tune is definitely what changes this car but I'm really not ready for tune yet. I just got the car plus I am a coyote noob lol. I just came from heavily modded Camaro so a little slow down is not a bad thing for me personally. I just want to get used to this car first, make sure I can somehow wrap around my head that nothing will break, then I will look for a tune. I like how Doug been offering personal support on the forum along with steeda. That mean much much more than a tuner that is supposed to be the best but it take a month just to get one reply. I'm a vendor on camaro5 and trust me, a vendor that's active within the forum community is the one that get guys trust and respect, but more importantly, selling one more part than the next vendor is not a bad thing either

I think the only possible benefit in the tube being smother and straight otherwise Ford does a pretty nice job . I made a custom tube one that exit all the way up to the bumper on my supercharged T-Bird - no change even in intake temp .
