Lets talk about Cam Tunes..

Has anyone successfully gotten a reliable cam tune that doesn't stall out at the strangest moments, and is trouble free?

I'm about to give up on the whole cam tune thing. Started when I bought the car last year. Tried Steeda, they offered one revision, and then didn't try further, just gave me a refund. (I didn't ask for it, wanted them to keep trying)

I've been working with American Muscle/Bama for nearly a year now, and we just can't seem to land on a tune with my JLT intake that works consistently. They all stall out when putting into reverse and lightly letting off the clutch, or stall on a warm startup, or randomly stall at lights.

I've given up, and have just been running the standard 93 Octane Race tune, but I'm just curious if anyone has gotten one that is worthy of a 100% stall free experience.

Now that I changed my exhaust today, replacing my GT500 Axlebacks with Borla S-Types (and loaded up the cam tune for a few minutes) I really miss that idle.

For what it's worth, the only time I DIDN'T have stalling all the time with AM/Bama was on the stock intake.

Should I consider changing intakes?

That doesn't really answer the question, and 325 for a tune scared me away.

I would absolutely go back to the stock intake as in my opinion it's better than any of the aftermarkets ones. I just don't want to start another CAI debate. As far as the price tag you gotta pay to play!

I would change to the stock intake. From reading your description, the cam tune is what you really want, along with reliability. I don't believe that a cai provides much of an increase. I would put on the stock air box but keep your intake. Drive it around for a month with the tune and see if you miss the intake noise. If not, sell the intake. You could also hold onto to the intake and test it as new tunes come out.

I've been thinking about the CAI swap to stock, as the IATs alone tell a good story. Yesterday I saw IATs as high as 163*, I know I did a bit of a test on the stock box and never saw any more than 120* in a long soak just sitting there with the stock box.

If the aftermarket CAI doesn't match the hood liner for a good seal then it defeats the purpose. So the stock box may be an improvement. Maybe that affects the parameters of the cam idle tune?

I second this.

My bama tunes were awful in comparsion to my current aed tune. Certainly worth the extra cash imo. But as others have mentioned, go back to the stock intake.

My suspicion is that stock intake is good enough until you are really deep into modifications that produce significant power upgrades. I think one should be real picky about the intake and hard to beat stock as a default.

Maybe I'll switch to a different intake or a non-tune intake and then switch back.

Bama hit my cam tune dead on, one revision and it works great. I have driven big cam cars and it drives just the same.

Please don't take this wrong, but are you sure you aren't just a little over critical? I mean they have 100's of the tunes out with JLT's and I don't see any bad words..

With her given issues i dont think she's being over critical at all. Who wants their car stalling at a light due to their tune?

I have a JLT CF CAI on my 2012 GT and run our Ghost Cam tune and have absolutely no issues! We can definitely get this tune right for you, shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll have a Bama tuning specialist contact you directly. We send out thousands of tunes and build them all from the ground up for your PCM code and your mods. They're not just "canned" tunes, they're built custom by our team, so every once in a while it's possible we mess one up! We'll definitely get it straightened out for you, though!

Dan, I'll see if I can find it. I have a feeling it's tied to that noisy MAF signal.

I have Steeda's cam tune. I bumped the idle to 900 rpm's and no stalling issues since.

The irony is that I did not ask them to send me a cam tune when I bought their CAI and wanted a tune to go with it for street/strip. I think I'd rather have a normal idle and get real high lift / long duration cams for that lumpy idle.
