This is an article that we did to address the cold air intakes.

http://www.steeda.com/blog/2012/03/m...-intake-truth/

A design element we have incorporated into this CAI is our exclusive aluminum velocity stack component that we developed directly from feedback and tests from our factory sponsored Mustang racing program.

Securely fitted to the velocity stack is a durable silicone connector with dual stainless steel band clamps that attaches our roto-molded inlet tube with our proprietary cool-tube technology. Together these components provide an extremely smooth transition for incoming air to enter the engine’s intake manifold.

Best Regards,

TJ

CAI flip a coin as far as performance goes? Fit and finish I guess would be my next concern if I were shopping for one. This car has the best factory airbox setup I've seen on any car, so when you have a well optimized system like that, it's hard to best it until you start developing BIG power.

go with Steeda. I have a JLT that i can't even get rid of to swap for a Steeda. So many surging issues early on with it. Went through 8 revisions to get rid of the surging.

That has more to do with who is doing the tune, not the intake.

but it's also the simple fact that the JLT is well known to have the noisiest MAF signal because of the huge tubing.

Tuning plays a huge factor, use a good tuner and those issues will go away.

I love my Carbon Fiber JLT ... Make sure you tell Bama you want the tune that was co-written with JLT ... I originally had a Bama Tune and there is some surging issues when engine is cold. I contacted JLT who contacted Bama ... they sent me a new and improved tune and it runs perfect now.

figure out how much it would cost per HP and go with the most economical one?

That theory is flawed when there are tuners that don't have any issues.

The one thing that makes me want to go with the JLT is the fact that they have the carbon fiber tube, it looks so much better then the Steeda with the plastic / aluminum combo, but the fact that Steeda has the velocity stack which is nice and I like the horsepower gains are impressive. So I'm still undecided.

I think JLT has remedied that surging problem.
I do believe they added a screen to help with the surging. I would check with JLT before ordering, obviously.

This, the cartridge style mass air meter used in the later model cars are very sensitive to the air flowing around them. Change the tube significantly and it requires a tune to correct for the altered airflow.

The older MAFs that used a sample tube were more tolerant in that regard. I think the big issue with the older MAFs were along the lines of pull through and blow through applications.

Get a CAI the requires a tune otherwise the CAI probably does nothing!
I have the Steeda CAI and Steeda 93 octane tune and it made a big difference!

Similar results with my '11 GT. Manual trans with factory 3.73 gears. Factory stock except: GT500 mufflers, K&N air filter in the stock airbox, SCT 91 octane strategy tune, and drag radials. 409 rwhp and 382 rwtq. Best 1/4 mile 12.15 and just over 117 mph.

I then added an Steeda CAI with supporting tune and saw no improvement at the track in similar weather (same DA). In fact, car went a tenth slower and a couple mph less through the traps.

IMHO, an aftermarket CAI doesn't add any performance to a near stock 5.0L. Perhaps a heavily modified 5.0L needs the extra airflow and the Steeda and JLT CAI's sure look nice under the hood, however.

Impressive numbers.

Who did your tune and with what type of tuner?
