Fogs are basically pretty worthless unless you 1) live in an area that gets fog, or 2) like to run with those lights on for show.

Decided a set of dedicated driving lamps would be much more appropriate for night running. Had a set of glass Hella 500 series lying around. Bought a spare set of fogs off Ebay to modify for $20. Basically I removed the factory lens, mounted the Hella reflectors in those housings (retaining the stock adjusters) and remounted in the car. Just finished so haven't tried them at night yet, but the conversion might be of interest to some:

Start by hacking up the OEM lamps (remove lens)


Mounted the Hella lamps in the OEM housings


Rewired the stock bulb plugs to the H3 bulbs for a plug and play to the OEM harness:


Mounted the assemblies on my Eleanor grill:




Dual 55watt H3 bulbs and true driving lenses should reach out a bit better on those dark roads..

 

Those fogs look familiar.

Now, I would be interested in making my fog lights in my CS fascia match my HID lights.

I would love to do that! I run my fogs on all the time though! I just worry about if running them are still legal.

Can you post more pics from farther away of your Eleanor grill set-up? I like it a lot!!!!

I try to keep from driving @ night, too. My eyes get way bad. Maybe this isn't for me? Mine are just for show.

I've got the PIAA driving light kit on my 2009 (http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-Ford-Must.../dp/B000GKIERK), stock fog location, and will tell you that they're bright and worthwhile, cover up the patchy pattern of the stock high beams well. But if you think people flash you now for wimpy stock fogs, it'd be 2-3x as bad with driving lights. Center mount might not be as bad for people thinking they're traditional driving/brights, but the amount of light put out is enough to blind oncoming drivers quite effectively.

Just be ready with that brake pedal; I slam the brakes when someone does that to me -- if they hit me, it's no doubt they're fault, and they ain't getting away with a hit-and-run.

But yeah, brights and driving lights go a long ways to letting someone know you're not happy, or that you're a dick if you just forget they're on.

I have the Hella 500s on my GT.
I switched the headlight wiring so they only come on with the high beams.
2 options now.
Regular head lights or DAYLIGHT.

I might actually do this myself... Been thinking of what to do w/ my (useless) fogs...

 

How'd you switch the lighting to do this?? I have the grille mount ones wired to a separate switch currently, and have yet to put some fogs in my lower fog light holes on the Heritage fascia. So those will function as the traditional fogs controlled by the stock pull switch. The driving lights are separately controlled that way. Wouldn't mind the way you say, though.

 

I just switched the terminals in the headlights, quick and dirty.
Downside...
I now have a "low beam" indicator in the dashboard lights.
I just leave "my color" on blue so I don't notice it.
I do like going between superbright and regular by just clicking the stalk.
