Flat spot in Coyote engine Dyno
Flat spot in Coyote engine Dyno
Hi There,
I am buying a Coyote crate motor for my 67 rebuild and after viewing the engine dyno results (not chassis) was wanting to know if anyone else has seen the flat spot created in the torque curve when the cam phasing is changed?
Its very noticeable and more so with headers and flash tune on the factory ecm. My dyno guy says that the effect is a direct result of the phasing, and without remapping the Ford parameters for the VVTi completely all he can do is move it up or down the curve.
Any comments would be appreciated either relating to engine vs chassis dynos, cam phasing, mapping etc etc
Thanks in advance from an enthusiast from NZ

mine is not nearly that pronounced but there is a slight flat spot in the curve. I don't FEEL it though when driving.
I would contact Shaun at AED. I feel like he's become more or less the community's favorite/guru when it comes to tuning the coyote. If anyone could address this, it would be him.

Thanks - I guess I will have to wait unti it arrives and see what its like on our dynos here....
It sounds reasonable that the phasing is the cause, just didnt think Ford would have let it be so pronounced.

If you want to turn the Coyote into a beast, delete VCT, get phaser lockouts, and then have custom cams and a Dyno tune. Deleting VCT allows for much more tuning of the cams, and you won't have a flat spot in the curve.
THANX for info but don't wanna mess with warranty I have extended too. oh no ! If I could only get my old tuner to come up from FLA. he would get it out he tuned my Lightning 12 years ago & it hasn't even burbed, he was a Ford mastertech who had his own shop in Long Island NY
