I went through Dynomax VTs, better than stock but still quite, removed the resonators and the sound was getting good. I found a good buy on GT500 Quads and the sound got incredible. Best sound I have heard but it is loud.

11-12 is what most people get, the 13-14 will fit but it will require a different rear valance as it has 4 tips.

Ok I'm tired of searching and listening to vids...., The stock GT exhaust. How restrictive is it over any popular aftermarket brands...ie. borla or magnaflow. I know that some older cars really had restrictive exhausts and could get some real power gains with cat back systems.. Do these new mustangs only need axle backs or are their other bottle necks in the piping? Any one have a link to any magazine tests with flow and wheel hp measurements?

Audibly the stock mufflers are pretty restrictive but not as bad as the camaro for example. You can hear it when you get on it but thats it. The restrictions are in the axle back for sound, and the rear of the H pipe for volume, thats where the resonators are. You can change the axlebacks for the sound you want, and either cut out the resonators or replace the whole piping with an aftermarket one to get the volume and increased popping and burbles.

I personally got the GT500 axlebacks and then removed my resonators. The sound is unreal, and there's no drone.

I wouldn't count on any noticeable power gains when you change the axleback. Removing the Cats will get you about ~15whp, long tube, or Kooks shorty headers are good for another ~10whp. I haven't really seen anyone post any substantial gains when changing the catback but there are some obvious visible restrictions in the stock H-pipe and over-axle pipes. I think over all the stock exhaust is pretty free flowing in comparison to older cars.

I've got the FRPP M-5230-MSVTCA Touring axleback which gives the car a nice muscle sound without pissing off the neighbors every time I start it.
