C&L Performance CAI & Custom Tuning Review

So I finally made the decision to go with C&L Performance for my custom tunes because of all the good things I had read about Doug's Automatic Tunes, as well as, I figured who better too know about how to squeeze every last hp out of a C&L product, than C&L themselves lol.

I would first like to compliment C&L's customer service. I felt as if I was dealing with a local shop where I had been a customer for years. Fast, Friendly, and Helpful

Anyways now to the good stuff....after some confusion of all the initial setups (being that this was my first time ever loading any tunes), I was able to load the custom tunes to the programmer, and from the programmer to the car's cpu. At first I wasn't sure I had done it correctly, but after everything completed, turning on the car, and getting it to the nearest road....I quickly found out I had loaded everything correctly.

I only went around several blocks, but it was definitely responding a lot better. I first noticed that on take off, it responded a lot more quickly, which resulted in some serious tire burning. In mid range which is were it always felt it lacked, is where it really came alive. I also definitely felt a lot more firmer shifts and better shift points. The combination of the almost 50% more air flow coming from the cai and my gt500 exhaust was music to my ears .

BTW this was on my 2012 gt A6 with Doug's 93 octane "Perfect" tune. I will be getting more of a feel for it tomorrow on my daily commute.

I will keep you all posted, and I m kinda excited to try his "torque" tune because I hear its a very fun tune.

Also I hope to be able to make it out to the track soon, to get some 1/4 mile times with Doug's race tune.

Nice. My torque tune has definitely caused my tires to not like me as much. I'll probably get another tune or 2 for mine sometime.

I have the 93torq and 93perf tune.

Both tunes are great. I love running the 93torq due to my Boss 302 intake and the power it has.

I have definitely been looking at that CAI also...just need to pull the trigger and get it.

Well if you haven't gotten a cai, then C&L is best match for Doug s tunes.

I m tempted to pull the trigger on a local guy selling a brand new boss 302 manifold, but idk how the wife would feel about that lol.

Have any of you all gotten dyno numbers or 1/4 mile times with your tunes and mods?

Thanks guys!

I know I haven't been back online in more then 2 years but I've never stopped tuning these cars locally. I still know how to work my magic with the automatics as well as helping the manual cars get full use of each gear.

As I said about the Boss manifold unless you're into higher RPM shifting then it may not be for you but if you do get it just let me know as its a free tune file update from us on all of your tunes.

Thanks!! Doug

Thanks and will do, Doug. I actually decided I want to get some that power down to the ground, so I going with some 3.73 gears and LCAs. Any suggestions on which LCA brand?

Doug, do you offer tunes for nitrous applications? I'm loving the 93 Torque and 93 Race tunes but am debating on buying a 100hp wet shot nitrous kit for my next mod. I've been torn on it though, as I'd like to invest in a blower in the next year or so and would rather save up for that instead, so as a short-term alternative what gains could I expect with getting a C&L intake instead?

One last thing, will C&L be offering the new Livewire Touchscreens anytime soon? If so, any chance of offering a trade in program for those of us with X3's, etc?
