Base GT brake upgrade
I finally got around to doing my brake upgrade on my base GT.
I swapped the stock pads for Hawk HPS along with Goodridge stainless lines.
I also changed to Motul RBF 600 brake fluid and the results are superb![Thumb](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Brake feel is solid with no fade even after running hard in the canyons with the temps in the 90's
also with these pads they are quiet and dont produce the brake dust that some race pads do.I would reccommend this upgrade to anyone that does'nt want to go the Brembo or other big brake kit route.
I got all parts from Sam Strano except for the brake fluid.

I would say less although my stock brakes were not bad at all.I have black wheels so it will show up but so far these hawk pads have been great.

Im looking at doing this as well. I was looking at the manual and it states that the clutch and brakes are attatched to the same resevoir. When you changed your fluid did you bleed the brakes and the clutch to get all of the old fluid out?

I see you didn't do your pads yourself... I just put the HPS pads on mine and wanted to ask a question.
On the front pads, the spring on either end that pulls it back from the rotor when you let off the brakes... are these important? The reason I ask is that 4 out of the 8 springs came OFF of the Hawk pads when I put the calipers back on. I haven't driven it yet (just because I've been busy with other stuff today). I'm just wondering if the pads are going to squeal more because those springs aren't there, or if it will be okay to drive without those.

That's okay, Patrick. I have talked to the place I ordered the pads from, and they are exchanging these with a new set! I received the new pads today already.
It was the "anti-rattle clips" that came off. I have driven the car a couple times and they don't rattle or squeal at all, though. I should be able to get the new pads on tomorrow morning.

Good deal Ron I can see why these Hawk pads are reccomended by so many people.
They really are a nice upgrade from stock without going to a full race pad.

Just installed HPS pads, Goodridge SS lines, and boss brake ducts this weekend. Still waiting on the Motul fluid to arrive. Man it made a big difference and that was testing in the rain, can't wait to try in the dry when the tires are warm and can grip a little better. Now i need to save up to upgrade the suspension to get rid of that ridiculous nose dive. I see the sky in the rear view mirror when braking hard lolol

That's great Eric I really like this set up and I've been putting the Hawk pads to the test.
I've had to haul this beast down from speed a few times and the brake upgrade has worked well.

Just got home from work and the left rear brake was smoking. Not sure exactly where it was coming from however it did look like the pink heat grease that came with the pads was burnt on the back of the pad but the smoke wasn't coming from there
Anyone else with these pads have that problem??? EDIT: I wasn't doing any hard braking on the way home, just normal driving.
EDIT: I think I might have found the problem. The nub on the backing plate of the brake pad was not in the cutout on the piston. Maybe this was adding extra pressure to the brake and keeping it applied. Did you put that nub into the cutout on your brakes as well? I'm wondering how that affects the piston rotating out. Someone at work today told me they shave those nubs off before installing...Any info on this?
