Anyone running the Centerforce DYAD?
Anyone running the Centerforce DYAD?
I recently installed one and this thing just grabs like an on/off switch and is really hard to drive in traffic. I called centerforce and they said this is the first complaint they had like this. I have about 50 miles on it now and no signs of it getting better. I have bleed the clutch 15 times.
Centerforce wanted me to take it out and send to them for testing......its my only car so thats not going to happen. So I called summitracing where I bought it and they are sending me another one and allowing me to do the swap then I send them the old one back. Thats what centerforce should have done.
So for those of you that have this clutch is this normal? Does it go away? I bought it off all the reviews from people saying its smoother than stock etc....well I want to hear from people that actually have it than a mag or site trying to sell it to me.
I did contact a person on SVTP that has one and he said it was pretty harsh when he first installed it in his 2012 GT but after it was broke in it became streetable.
I have tried taking out the assist spring....made it even harder to drive...put it back in. So I am going to try a new one and see if its better. and if enough people say "thats normal and goes away once broken in" I will let it ride for 500 miles and see if its true. If thats just how this clutch is I will just send it back to summit for a refund and get something else.
this clutch has made me go from loving to drive the car to hating to drive it.....if all I did was trailer it to a drag strip it would be perfect I guess.

I had a brand new ACT pressure plate fail in my turbo charged Miata...ACT said the same thing; never heard of the problem before, asked me to send it in...which I did, they predictably claimed that the part was fine, blamed the install. The Mazda dealer that installed it (I dont have access to a lift to do it myself) insisted the part was bad and wouldnt budge...so I was out the cost of two installs and two pressure plates...and hours and hours of fighting with them.
I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted.

I just had this same Centerforce DYAD clutch (with a new slave cylinder and pilot bearing) installed two days ago. Like the OP said, the clutch grab point is rather violent and even difficult to predict. Sometimes it grabs hard with the pedal close to the floor. Driving at freeway speeds gives the pedal a much lighter feel, although the grab point is much higher up than it is when driving around town
The installation tech at the speed shop told me to expect a "dead pedal" feel to the clutch when it's cold for the first day or so. He said it has something to do with building up hydraulic pressure. Pumping up the pedal a few times before driving brings the correct pedal feel back. I sure hope this is indeed a temporary issue. I can't help but wonder if the clutch bleed was done correctly?
Granted this is an '05 GT but the problem is exactly like the OP stated. I've put about 100 miles on the car since the install. Has anyone else had this same issue going on?

as for the clutch you can bleed it buy placing vacuum on the master cylinder for 10 mins then pumping it about 200-300 times.
Thanks very much for the update! I'm glad to hear yours eventually came good. This clutch is definitely heavy duty. It growls more than the stock disk when you first release it in 1st gear. I don't have that crazy noise with the pedal depressed. Did you replace the slave and pilot bearing when you did the clutch?
I took it back to the speed shop this afternoon and expressed my concerns. The tech was cool about listening but said that "all mustangs have the same bleeding issue" for the first day or two after clutch installation. I told him it hasn't really improved since I picked it up but will drive it over the weekend to get some more miles on it. If there's no improvement by Monday, I'll bring it in and have them bleed it again. I got the impression that the guy may not have bled it after installation; only because he appeared to be unsure if it had a bleed valve underneath the car. I've heard that the '05 had that bleeder screw but subsequent years did not
I then asked about the vacuum bleed at the MC but he said he never has to do that and doesn't really want to. He explained that the air eventually clears in the line even without bleeding. The impression I get is that he just doesn't want to spend the time doing it if he doesn't have to.
Thanks again for the reply and I'll update when this gets fixed.

putting a vac on it makes a difference. I tried just pumping it a lot and by alot I mean a thousand or so times it felt like it at least. the vac just gets what would take weeks to bleed out done in less then an hour. there might be a bleeder on the 05-10's but I dont know for sure. if there is it would be a pain to get to I bet.
I didnt install a new slave cylinder or pilot bearing as my car was still practically brand new when I did the swap.
