Airaid Fix for 2013 CAI
As you may be aware, the heat extractor vents on the new 2013 can let water into the engine compartment. Unfortunately if you install a CAI system, some of that water will drop directly on your air filter and then filling the air box.
I contacted Airaid regarding this and they sent me this kit along with a pre-filter. The idea is to channel the water past the filter into the air box. One modification you have to make is drilling 1/4" holes in the mounting points at the base of the box. This will allow the water to drain out.
Curious if anyone else has had to rig something similar with other CAI systems.

Do you know of a better solution from another manufacturer? I'm not saying it looks good, just that Airiad didn't design for this issue. If there is a better design, I'll install it.

C&L makes one specifically for the 2013 and it looks great and keeps water out without having to drill drain holes...

I agree, I give them credit for at least stepping up and sending the kit out to the people that purchased this kit for the 2013. I also contacted them and got mine last week.

Thanks for the input. The C&L looks like a better solution since the box is designed to shield the filter from water. As for flow of the Airaid being reduced, the top of the airbox is supposed to seal against the hood. I would think the hot air trying to escape thru the vents could have been drawn in by the filter. However, I've been watching my intake temps on the dash and they don't seem to climb much.

A little water doesn't hurt the cai at all stop being babies. I have a boss 302s hood with massive 3-2" vents and water barely gets into the cai and it does nothing...

I didn't say it hurt anything. I said it looks like a cobb job. On my cars I want something that works right AND looks good. IMO the AirRaid set-up looks like someone just threw a shield on it as an after thought.... oh wait... they did!!

Yeah it looks retarded like someone just put a sheet of metal over it lol... Just leave it as it is. Water doesn't hurt the CAI, and second the 2013 hood vents are a lot smaller and barely let any water in.

We have done several tests and Dario Orlando, our owners, has a 2013 DD with a Steeda CAI.
No issues at all driving in rain, sitting outside, or even going through a car wash. There was also a video done by another company showing that water did not get on the CAI.
This is not an issue you have to worry about.
Best Regards,
TJ

At least Airraid is willing to do something for their customers that have a concern, may not look pretty but at the least the pre-filter is a plus. Props to Airraid for sending out these kits!
