3.73 Gear Install???

So im about to order my Ford Racing 3.73 gears. So stupid question....What else do i need besides the gears? My car is a 2011 5.0 with an automatic transmission and only has 5,000 miles on it. So what would i need to buy besides the gears ? I have an SCT tuner already so do i still need the speed cal? And are Ford Racing gears the best to go with? Thanks for the help guys.

Do you know how to properly lash the gears? If not, prepare for gear whine with possible grenading later on.

That process can be easily learned! So I wouldn't worry about that.

I would take it to a shop unless you have experienced help....it would suck if your gears whined after installing them. My 4.10 and locker combo in my F150 is silent and I thank 4 Wheel Parts for that. They have service centers nation wide but other shops can do it. Ask around as I would not take it to a novice. I paid 375 for install plus price of parts. The FRPP gears are fine for most.

I'd agree, and the dealer can do this as well (just more costly).

I figure, if you're asking what else you need, you probably need it installed.
If, however, you were already planning on that and are wondering about any ancillary parts your installer may need, here's a kit, though if the car is brand new you probably don't need any of it; sometimes the installers have preferences to replace certain pieces:

Don't know why you have to be defiant about it...

But DEFINITELY ask some San Diego locals for advice, you don't want a gear install done poorly, for the reasons mentioned above.

Again, Ford dealers will do it perfectly (or should) but may be more costly than other places.

Lol, I mean Definitely! Sorry **** auto correct on my phone. But yea, I will be taking them to a shop to install. I just ordered them. The gears, Royal purple gear oil, and 1 bottle of Ford Racing Performance Parts Friction Modifier.... I should be fine with just that right? I mean once i take it to a shop.

Whoa, that came out of left field! What is different about the 2011 bearings? I thought an 8.8 rear was an 8.8 rear.

Not according to AM, they have the same ones listed as for the 05-10s.

hey i know your original post is from march but i figured id put in my two cents worth. if youre gonna upgrade your gears, then youll need an install kit, a new traction-lok rebuild kit with carbon discs and a new 8.8 bearing. ford changed the bearing in mustangs in 2010+ so thats why theres a need for the new bearing. all of this is available at american muscles website. if you havent installed gears yet then good luck and hopefully this has helped.

Are you planning on upgrading your stock gears? If so, to what? Remember, the higher gear you're using, the higher the RPM's will be on the highway.
