Exhaust suggestions -- deep but not too loud
Hi, just thinkin' about future exhaust swap . . . simple muffler swap for now . . .
I'd like a really deep / bass sound, a little louder than the stock exhaust but not so loud as to be instrusive for my neighbors.
Suggestions?
thanks in advance!

Any straight through muffler will give you the really deep/bass sound you're describing. Borla Stingers, Bassani Race, or Magnaflow Magnapacks will do the job well. If you keep the factory h pipe in place it will be louder but definitely won't bug your neighbors.

GT500 KR mufflers... FTW! Best sounding muffler I have ever put on a Mustang. I have tried Flowmaster 40s, Mac, Borla Stingers, Borla Touring, Magnaflow Magnapacks, Magnaflow Ovals, Pypes, FRPP GTAs... nothing comes close to the perfect balance between loud at wot, quite at idle and cruise, and NO DRONE. Get these and you won't ever look back... The only mufflers that I would consider trying other than these would be the Corsas, but to me, the KRs have a much better "classic" Mustang sound. Music to my ears!
Here's an example... The video says they are FR500S mufflers, but they are also M-5230-S (for 2005-2009) and M-5230-SA (for 2010).

Good luck with the search!

hmmm . . . so now it's a tie between the Borlas and the KR's with two votes each, versus all the others with one . . . unfortunately those two are some of the most expensive . . .
I can see that I need to get my mods budget in order, will probably go for a clear bra and window tint first, then the mufflers or maybe a tuner . . . or maybe pulleys . . . so many potential mods, so little time and money . . .

Well, the FRPP mufflers are Borla. And if the KR mufflers are the same as the FR500S then wouldn't the best answer just be to go with the FRPP mufflers?
FRPP(Borla) FTW!

The tips on the MAC's won't clear the new longer rear valence on the 2010-2011. I saw a video of someone that put them on a 2010 and one of the tips was partially inside the valence, looked weird. My Stingers are the 2010 specific set that are longer to accommodate for the valence. I was interested in MAC too, even emailed them regarding a 2010 set.

I ultimately went with Flowmasters on my 4.6... and then my 5.4. They sound good, look good, with minimal drone... Also, they have a stainless steel kit available now.

Those KRs sound great... if I switch, it'll be the KRs or the Roush Extreme. I've had the FRPP/Borla Stingers. They sound awesome, but too much drone at the 1800-2000 range IMO. I also had the SLP Loudmouths... nice and deep, but droned as well.

Hey guys, it's been a while but I thought I should report back --
I did take all your recommendations seriously, but couldn't quite swallow the $600 price tag for the Borla Stingers / FRPP KR's . . . so . . .
I found a pair of Magnaflow rectangular mufflers (not the Magnapacks) for $250 used and gave them a whirl . . . they have a great deep smooth tone with absolute zero drone ; but the bad news is they are not much louder than the stock mufflers. They do eliminate the "hollow" sound of the stock mufflers, and the tips are absolutely gorgeous. The sound great at heavy throttle and give the car a nice high-tech sound, almost like a Ferrari or something. (yeah, not really, but I think you get the idea)
Interesting thing aboug the Magnaflows, they look like a chambered design, but if you look in the tailpipe you can see that it is like a "straight through", except the pipe takes a small jog so it comes in one corner of the rectangle and out the other corner.
Meanwhile I kept looking for a deal on a pair of the FRPP KR's . . . finally found some on e-Bay for about $375 including shipping so I grabbed them . . . loudness wise they are just the ticket; noticeably louder than the stock mufflers but not obnoxious; nice deep tone though they do have a bit of that "hollowness" and not as smooth as the Magnaflows. The sound awesome at heavy throttle, and have a very noticeable crackle when you downshift or let off on the gas. And there is ZERO DRONE on the highway; I do a lot of highway cruising at 1800-2200 RPM and this is very important to me; no issues on the highway whatsoever; you can hear the exhaust if you listen, but it fades away into the background quite nicely if you want to listen to the radio or have a conversation.
I'm a little confused by the post above saying that the FRPP's/Borla Stingers drone; I thought these were the same mufflers and mine don't drone at all. I am not sure about the part number, maybe they are different. The ones I have are round straight-through design.
Another note about the "cans" versus rectangular mufflers -- the cans are easier to install, because you can get at the hangers a lot easier.
So for now I'm happy with the FRPP KR's aka FR-500-S mufflers. Note to anyone else with 2010 GT looking at these, make sure you get the 2010 model because the tips are a little longer than earlier years.
I'd post a sound clip but the microphone in my camera is so crappy that it does not pick up the low frequencies at all, so it does not do either muffler justice.
thanks again for your help and advice!

Nice choice. The FR500S/KR axleback definitely sounds great and is a very underrated axleback system among other brands. I went to Mustang Alley at the Woodward Dream Cruise and people could buy exhaust and have them installed on a makeshift lift under a tent. I watched the install of a set on an '11 GT500 and it sounded awesome when they started it, backed it out and revved it.
