Coil Packs

Are the coil packs worth the money?

I looked over this review: http://www.mustangandfords.com/techa...rade/dyno.html

And they got some serious gains- 20+ hp and 20+ ft lbs.
I read up on them and see these GMS have given a lot of trouble in the long run, but the MSD Blaster set seems to work very well. http://www.americanmuscle.com/msd-so...plug-0509.html

Anyone have any insight?!?
My next mod I'm thinkin these and a Steeda UDP set...

I just had an email exchange with Chandler over at Breenspeed. He says the MSD blaster set are a tested and tried coil pack, which is why they sell it,- and for a lightly modded car- such as mine, it will definitely increase the horsepower and torque.

Simply put: A Better Burn = More power.
They also don't require a new tune.

I think sometime this month I'll pick up a set...
we'll see.

Ooh that's good to know any idea on a cost for a full set , I assume plug and play, if no tune required ? But if they increase the hpower ?

Yup it's a direct bolt on. Yea I wondered on the retune as well... idk, I'll ask another breenspeeder just to be sure.

Here's a few offerings.
http://www.brenspeed.com/82438.html
http://www.americanmuscle.com/msd-so...plug-0509.html
Best price I found was: http://www.hdmaddog.com/MSD-46L-54L-...-p8404695.html

the cheapest site says 05-07, but it's the same MF number "82438"... Hence the same part- just not updated I'd assume. If you check the article link in the original post, it sees gains up to 27 hp 24 tq... granted those were for the GMS coils... but still, there's something to be had with the MSD's.

Well, I emailed Dave over at Breenspeed as well as Dann over at American Muscle... Both had said that these offer little to no benefit to using them unless supercharged. While they offer a better burn and a hotter spark, they wont see much gains in NA form. Anything over 450RWHP Dave would recommend the swap, otherwise the stock setup are suitable

I probably wont end up getting these...

That's exactly right, only real gain would be on a boosted motor where the increased cylinder pressure requires the much stronger spark.

If you use them on a N/A motor, it would help if you opened the plug gap some.
