David - nice job! Now wait a sec, I did not know that 2012-2013 visors with lighted vanity mirrors and HomeLink will work on a 2011...? So it was pre-wired in your 2011? Even though these were not available, even as an option? You mean Ford had it all pre-wired in 2011 but did not offer it? What made you look? Where did you get new ones?

I got both visors thru my dealer for $225. Expensive yes... but worth it for the function and looks.

The visor in the 2011 is paper thin and my garage remote would not stay on. I liked the ones in my 2013 so I had the parts manager at my local Ford dealer check the wiring schematics for my 2011 Shelby vs the 2013 GT. It was the same harness part#. I pulled the headliner down and the connectors were taped up to the harness. Plugged new ones in and works great. Took about 30 seconds to program after reading the instructions.

Very interesting story, and thanks for sharing, David. I may have a story of my own here...when we bought our 2011 GT, my wife was not happy about the visors not being lighted (I found my own HomeLink solution thanks to another TMS member). And my Ford sales guy made us a deal on this 2011, with the promise that if 2012+ visors could be retro-fitted, they would do it. Well, he told me the car was not pre-wired, so we did not get them retro-fitted. This week I'll have to check under the headliner, and see what's going on here. 'Cuz my Ford dealer may have to make good on their promise from 2011! Or I'll grab a pair in good condition from a salvage yard. I'll gain a lot of bonus points from wifey if I can get these for her!
Once you remove the visor screws and the clip holder for the visor, you can also pull the center roof console where the map lights are located. You just pull, its attached with clips. Additionally you need to pull the pillar molding that starts on the ceiling by the doors and goes around to the front windshield. once all those are removed you can gently pull the leading edge of the headliner and see the wiring harness. The plugs for the visors were folded back on themselves and taped up out of the way. i cut the tape that was holding them in place, fished them down where the sun visors are screwed in, made the electrical connection to the new visor and then installed the visor putting the excess wiring back into the roof. Then just re-installed all the parts I removed.
Takes all of 20 - 30 minutes max to change out. i was overly cautious because I was paranoid about possibly bending the headliner when I pulled the edge down to fish the connectors out.
Tonight I tackle changing out the steering wheel. This car was used when I bought it and shows some signs of wear that are bugging the crap out of me. The wear on the seat and the wear on the black suede/alcantra steering wheel are driving me crazy!!
