VINTAGE: Rare GT40 Lightweight On Track
Aluminum panels reduced weight in sole remaining version of Ford's GT car raced by famed Alan Mann.
AM GT-2 was by no means a regular GT40, however, as it featured aluminum body panels. Further weight was shed by the removing the sill covers altogether. Another distinctive feature was the use of brake-cooling scoops usually seen only on the larger-engine Mk IIs. Early in 1966, the two Alan Mann Lightweight cars were raced at Sebring and used in the Le Mans trials.

I had read about aluminum bodied GT40's but I didn't realize they were that few in number.
Its to bad Ford couldn't find a way to keep the car in production. its as timeless as the 911.
