LOL, for some reason, the nose on that King Cobra always reminded me of the Datsun Z cars....

Well it does look like they lifted actual Z-car headlight buckets and adapted them to the King Cobra. It is still common practice to lift a popular original look from one make and use it on another. Sometimes one styling element will start a chain reaction for other manufacturers to copy it. Just think about back in the mid 60's everyone started adapting Pontiac's stacked headlamps. In the 70's everyone switched over to square headlamps. The 80's everything went to the composite aero units. If you look now, it seems for many cars everyone almost everyone is adapting entire bodystyles for most sedans and putting their own grille and badges on them.
