Petty announces full sponsorship plans

http://www.nascar.com/news/110124/rp...011/index.html

The sponsor lineup for 2011 includes several organizations that have partnered with Richard Petty in the past. Stanley, an RPM sponsor since 2005, returns. The 2011 season will also have a new addition to the RPM partner family as DeWalt returns to the sport. Both brands will serve as primary sponsors of the No. 9 Ford Fusion driven by Marcos Ambrose.

Best Buy will return to sponsor the No. 43 and driver A.J. Allmendinger for 24 races. Leading that team will be Mike Shiplett, who has worked with Allmendinger for several years at RPM. Valvoline, U.S. Air Force, WIX Filters, Reynolds and Paralyzed Veterans of America will round out the sponsorship package on the famed No. 43 car.

It's great to see big name sponsorship returning to the sport, but I think it is a travesty that there is even a race team named Richard Petty Motorsports that has absolutely nothing to do with Richard Petty other than name. I bet Richard Petty owns less than 1% of that team. Just my $.02. I'll get off my soap box.

I hope so. It was so awkward last year when they asked him in the pits how it felt to be back in Victory Lane, and his response was a sheepish, "I don't know." Dr. Jerry Punch had to explain how the ownership was just a name only thing.

On another note, my wife bought me Bristol tickets for Christmas. I'll be there in March. Woohoo!

I just hope RPM stays with Ford after this year, Marcos really was excited when they asked him about being back with Ford Motor Co.
