New 2012 Indycars
First up is Dallara, which released 3 2012 concepts over the last couple of days.

New 'Delta-Wedge' should be shown last this week (11th) and I think Lola and Swift will be showing "concepts" as well.

Concept three is likely the best speedway car, but the wings on all of them are too bulky for speedways. I've not watched Indy car in a while... do the rules exclude speedway wings now?
Oh, and I also like 3 the best, because it is 'powerful Mach 5' lookin'.

IRL, CART, and INDYCAR before them have played around with the semi-enclosed design like Concept #3 since the mid 90s at least. They never get further than sketches. Sadly, the more prominent a US racing series gets the more conservative it gets.
#1 and #2 look pretty much like slightly stylized IRL and F1 cars respectively.

I do like those too, but I wonder how much lift the side pods and rear wing end plates would generate at a 70-90 yaw angle. Already too **** many of those cars getting airborne.

Funny that Dallara and Swift both release pictures just a few days before the Delta Wing is scheduled to be unveiled. I'm curious to see the Delta Wing, but I think it might just be too radically different. I'd also rather see a return to more horsepower, rather than significantly less. The Delta Wing would be in the area of 325-350hp compared to 650hp today, and 900+ in CART's heyday.
What I'd really like to see is multiple engine and chassis manufacturers. Maybe even open up the engine specs to allow different engine types... 2 liter turbo or 4 liter n/a, and let the manufacturers decide how many cylinders to run. Something similar to LMP1 engine rules would be cool, although it might be tough to mix and match engines and chassis if the engine is a stressed member.

I think this one is my favorite comcept. It was done a while ago, but I like it. Nice surface area for sponsors . . . .

Now that I've seen the Delta Wing, I think I really like the Swift, Dallara, and whatever Lola comes up with.
