LEMANS: Inside The Audi R18

Oh my!!

R18 not going to be at Sebring, so maybe I will hold off and go to Petit Le Mans instead . . .

Christmas came two weeks early for sports car fans when Audi revealed the R18, its new-for-2011 Le Mans racer, and even with just a cursory glance, the new coupe looks like a major step forward for the German marque.

Dear Lord that is an ugly car. The FIA needs to ban vertical fins, or at least limit them. yeeesh,

I think it look pretty darn good! Maybe not as "handsome" as the old Bentley Speed 8 or current Roaring Lion, but not bad at all . . . .

Different strokes, man. To me, LMP hasn't had a good looking car since Panoz left.

I loved the R15, but this aside from directly in front of it looks bloody awful. I can't stand these vertical fins, the look astoundingly rediculous

Which Panoz? The Roadster or the "Batmobile?"

Best Panoz was the roadster.

The batmobile had a ton of style, but the reliability problems and lack of cooling drowned it. The Roadster had style and won some races.

In fairness the Roadster only has 4 more victories than the GTR-1/GTP (9 vs 5).

I do love them both, especially with their Ford powerplants . . .
