Ambrose Set to Move Up in '08 . . Part-Time

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/nascar/busch/39795/

Former Australian V8 Supercars star and current NASCAR Busch Series regular Marcos Ambrose is set to make his Nextel Cup debut next year.

John Sazymanski, Ford Racing Technology’s director of sponsor development, told the Charlotte Observer that the Blue Oval plans for the Australian to have at least a part-time Cup schedule in ’08, pending on adequate sponsorship being found.

“His work this year has been exceptional,” Sazymanski justified. “He’s progressed, stayed within himself, stayed in the top 10 in points. He’s good with sponsors, good with teams, good on the corporate side and good with the media.

“There is no question he was going to graduate to the Busch Series this season. But he earned it. He earned it on track with everything he did behind the wheel. For us that was critical.”

Ambrose currently sits ninth in the NBS points standings, with four top-10 finishes so far this season.

He should drive only on road tracks in Nextel.

Well since JJ Yeley just signed with HoF instead of Yates (instead of the second Ford team he goes with the 20th-something Toyota team, ouch), I wouldn't be surprised to see Ambrose in the running for the #88 next year. I don't expect alot from Kenny Wallace (great guy, never really got my blood flowing as a driver) while he subs for Rudd, and with John Sazymanski pushing him I think we could see it happen. Or maybe Amcrose and Wallace would share the ride.

There are talks that Kenny Wallace will replace Ricky Rudd next season. Wallace will also drive #88 Ford this week since Rudd is injured.

Looks like Travis Kvapil will be driver of #88 Ford next season.
