Interesting, The R8 has been a rather dominant ride but I wouldn't give it the number one spot because, IMO, it's had it too easy. The competition isn't what it used to be. I would have a hard time deciding between the GT40 MkIV and the Porsche 917 for number one. Both dominated during their short stints on the track and would have lived far longer racing lives were it not for the fact that each was effectively banned for being too dominant. And neither car relied on any hoo-dickery to get the job done either, they were just that good. Most successfully? Unfortunately not due to needless meddling. Greatest? Oh yeah.

As for how I think these guys will rank them. Either the 289 powered GT40 MkII or the Porsche 962 will be numero uno. With the exception of the R8 the top ten is probably going to look like Ford/Shelby, Ferrari, and Porsche rigged the voting.

If they group the 956/962 together then they may group the XJRs together and if they are the Jaguars may make the top 5.

I agree 100% with what you say here, but I still think they'll name the R8 as #1 just because there's been so much unnecessary love spewed out about them this decade. I fear the great duels and amazing feats of the past will be lost all because you can rebuild a wrecked R8 from scratch in 20 minutes.

The 1967 GT-MK-IV was a more significant car.
Completely designed and built in the US, unlike the mostly English made Lola derrived '66 GT-40.
It may be the first and only 100% American car to ever win the overall race.
Had a huge jump in average race speed - a record that stood for many years.
Won the index of efficiency, something at that time was unheard of for an overall winner.
If it wasn't for the accident that took out 3 or 4 of the MK-IVs in one shot, MK-IVs would have finished 1-2-3 just like in 66.

Well . . . I am not sure why speedtv.com has not updated the list, but looks like we are stuck on 24-15.
