Decrease loud sound of roush stage 3

Can anyone please tell me what should i do to decrease my roush stage 3 2013 loud voice? It's extremely loud, and I need to reduce its sound.

Probably the first place to start is looking for a different set of axle backs (mufflers). Love my Roush sound, but it can be obnoxious and loud. Many love the Ford Performance Axle backs. Check out this thread for info from those that love them...

yep, some kind of quieter mufflers would be the place to start ... there are lots of them available, so the next challenge is -- which one?

the GT500 mufflers are a popular choice, not sure if those are the same "Ford Performance" ones that Shaney is talking about

the good news is, they are designed to be very easy to change

Greetings and welcome aboard!

Providing you haven't swapped out the stock catted mid-pipe and resonators, I would most definitely consider a more quiet axle-back like either Ford Performance GT500's as mentioned above or you might also consider Borla Touring axle-back mufflers as a possible alternative as well... Meanwhile, wish you the very best in your search

Very easy! My shop did it in very little time. I really enjoy them. This was my thread about them and a video too.

Welcome to the forum. The "drone" (that sound in the cabin you get when cruising) from the Roush will be quite difficult, and expensive to cure. As Shane said, the Ford Preformance axel back exhaust is probably your best bet. We had the FP on the wife's '13 GT, and they were just right. They put all the music out the back, and when cruising the cabin was a plesant place to listen to the music from your raido. They are a bit pricey, but well worth the cost IMHO. Good luck on you decision.

I had axle back Borlas on two Mustangs and loved the sound which was throaty but not harsh or as loud as Flowmasters.

I guess it is possible the Roush tuning might be a factor in controlling the sound level. Just to be safe it might be a good idea to give Roush tech assistance a call and ask for their opinion.

Which type of Borlas did you have and which 2 Mustangs? I originally started out with Borla S-type (stingers) on my "06" GT... Even with the stock cats and cat-back exhaust in place, I couldn't stand the drone they produced... After making the switch to Borla ATAK axle-backs, the drone is still there, but not nearly as severe as the Borla S-types were... Since making the switch, I can at least deal with the drone much better than with the Borla S-types...

Borla Stinger on both, first a 2004 Cobra and then on a 2007 GT500.

For my taste I thought the Borla had minimal drone compared to Flowmaster and Magnaflow. The Borla could be loud when shifting on high RPNs and it had a throaty sound on steady highway speed. I really enjoyed the Borlas perhaps it was because I am inclined to be loud and obnoxious (haven't you noticed yet ) so I guess they match my personality.

With the Bullitt I have the MyMode feature which allows for selecting several levels of exhaust tones (Quiet, Sport, Track, and something else) so there is no need for aftermarket, mine is set on 'Sport' mode which is very close to the Borlas. Had MyMode not been available I would have certainly gone with Borlas.

Although the Borla ATAK produces less overall drone when compared to the Borla Stingers, I preferred the deeper/lower exhaust tone of the stingers... I would mostly notice drone when at cruising speeds on the highway when under 2000 rpm in 5th gear... When over 2000 rpm the drone would then stop... For local driving, I would always have to keep the RPMs above 2000 regardless of which gear I was in... I do agree however that when compared to Dronemaster and Magnaflow, the Borlas do indeed produce minimal drone lol.

Overall, like yourself, I do enjoy the Borlas and would only replace them in favor of the Ford Racing FR500S (M-5230-S) which has since been discontinued...
