I want a set of these exhaust bad.

I realize this should be posted in another section, but I wanted to get more coverage so I'm gonna post it here as longs as the mods will let me. I had a set of Ford Preformance FR500S axle back exhaust on my previous '06 GT. Dumb old me didn't think I'd have this problem so I let them go with the car. Now I want another set for my now '07, but damit Ford has discontinued them as far as I can tell. Even though I said I wanted to leave it stock, we all know they do need better exhaust to make these 197's sound right. So, here goes the big stretch. If anyone has a set of the FR500's part #24084 laying around your shop, or garage collecting dust and in your way I'm your man. If you can, help me apprease the "Exhaust Gods", and I'll be forever in your debt.

BTW, I understand the 500's are basically a retuned Borla S-Type exhaust, but they give me a tingle in my special place that the S-Type just can't.

Your timing is amazing .... my old E-Bay search is still running, and just got a hit yesterday ... I think they are asking $600, which seems way high, but I guess you gotta pay if you want them .... check on e-bay, hopefully they are still there

I saw those Bert, but just my luck they are on the other side of the country than me, and local pick-up. I thought I'd give this a shot before I went with the S-Type.

Jim! Just to clarify, the FR500's are not a re-tuned Borla S-Type axle back, nor does Borla manufacture them for Ford Performance... Ford Racing back in the day, designed the FR500S axle backs for their FR500C 5.0L "Cammer R50" engine... They were later added to the limited edition 2008 Shelby GT500KR as standard equipment... As for the Borla S-Types, I ended up selling them and upgraded to Borla ATAK's which in my honest opinion produce far less drone when cruising on the highway under 2k RPM in 5th gear..

Thanks Rocky, it's true we learn something new everyday. I hate that Ford quite making them. They sounded great for the way I used my '06 without any drone at any speed. I got more compliments on the sound of the car than anything else, and it was just the axle backs with nothing else added. If I would have known what I know now I could have put the old Pypes back on the less than an hour. But noooooooo, my big old dumb head didn't even think about that.

Close, but no cigar brother. I'm thinking at the cost of gas to drive to the left coast I could buy two sets of Borla's, and still come out ahead.

Here are Some Bargain Tinglers.

I stumbled over them And Decided to Post!

He Has Wrong Part Number Listed I Believe as the M31014 show to be the Loudmouth straight Through Pipe. These Have Resonators! They Would Be More $$ Than the Part Number Listed Could Be Discontinued Part or Custom. Anyway Looks Nice Priced Right. For Your Consideration.

Here Is A Huge Selection of What is Out There & Available!

I Believe These M-5230-S Are the The Same as The FR-500 Exhaust If not They are Close .
These are Discontinued and I Did a Ford Dealer & Sub Warehouse Parts Locate and No Ford Dealers Have These in Stock. Sometimes You Get Lucky and a Dealer Still Has An Obsolete Part in Stock for Reason or Another. Found a Lot of Parts This Way!

This Black car is My First 05. We Were Prototyping the Coffin Mufflers for a Bolt On Kit. I had a Real Nice Forum on These With Lots of Pics & Sound Bytes But the Forum Hack Wrecked it Bad. I have Stainless Steel Versions of These on My Gt-500. They Are Made Local by a Good Friend.

{I just Posted to Share.}

Sold a Ton Back in the day on Ebay and Through My Old Dealership. People Usually Love or Hate These. I love Em They are Different. No Drone Either that was a big Deal on the Stang Exhausts. Got em on My HD-F150 Supercharged and My 95 Ram V-10.

I guess Since I am Posting in Here we won't Worry about the Moderators! It was Exhausting Though!

Trust me Jim, your far from alone.. I made the same dumb mistake by not grabbing a pair of FR500S axle-backs for my "06" GT when they were still in production by Ford Performance... My reason, I chose looks of 304 grade stainless steel materials over better sound design and functionality and was also enticed by Borla's million-mile warranty... Unfortunately, I didn't finally realize just how much I would regret choosing the Borla's over the FR500S axle-back exhaust, until after they were already discontinued by Ford Performance

The M-5230-S aka FR500S axle-back exhaust was discontinued by Ford performance approx between 2-3 years ago!

That could very well be the ones Kevin. But, when you go to Summit they don't list them. Oh well, the S-Types will do the trick for me I'm sure. I just gave it a shot for the FR500's.

I do appreciate the thought Kevin. Since owning the '06 I went through a ton of videos trying to find the sound I wanted, and with the help of my gear head wife we narrowed it down too the 500's, and the S-Type. When I told her the 500's were discontinued she ask "do they still makes the Borla's". She's a good woman, and has put up with my craziness for many years. So, being I like the S-Type also those will probably be the ones. Now I have to decide if I want to install them myself, or have a cup of Joe at the muffler shop while a younger man does the job. I know it's not a hard job, but I don't bend in places where I used too.

Here's a couple of YouTube videos of the M-5230-S (FR500S) axle-backs featured on the limited edition 40th anniversary 2008/09 Shelby GT500KR... Enjoy!

Update

My search for the elusive FR500's was all for naught. So, I ordered the Borla S-Type from, of all places, WalMart. They had the cheapest price, at $552, than anywhere else.

Can't say that I blame you Jim! Personally, I wouldn't feel very comfortable in paying $600.00 for a used pair of FR500's off somebody from e-bay to be honest with you.. Meanwhile, congrats on getting the Borla S-Types from Wal-Mart for $552.00... Although I really liked the deep/aggressive tone the S-Types produced, but in the end, I upgraded to Borla ATAKS as my ears were just a bit too sensitive to handle the drone from the S-Types.. Perhaps your ears won't be nearly as sensitive as mine were and hope you'll be really pleased with them

The wife, and I had the same conversation Rocky. We decided we didn't know if we could trust the description, and $600 bucks plus shipping just wasn't in the cards for a used set. I had a set of Borla's on my previous '07 GM plastic car. I was quite pleased with them. I've read that with some extra add-ons, like an off road x-pipe, etc, you could get a bit of a drone from the Borla's. Being mine is stock, hopefully they will be fine. I'll update again when I get 'em on. Hopefully by Wednesday/Thursday of next week depending on my "Honey-do" list.

I first ran the S-Types with the stock catted H.. Then I tried pairing them with the MAC pro-chamber crossover.. When then failed, I tried running them with the off-road version of the MAC pro-chamber.. When that failed, the decision was finally made to sell them.. As a matter of fact, I ended up selling them to forum member Nemisus (Joseph) I recall he posted on one of the threads that he was looking to purchase a pair of Borla S-Types for his 2007 GT/CS... Needless to say, after responding to his post, we worked out a deal and the rest is history... Perhaps my ears are just more sensitive to drone when compared to others? Anyhow, I don't recall coming across any negative issues from Joseph since purchasing the S-Types from me, therefore, I assume he's been pleased with them, and hopefully you'll also be pleased with them as well Jim
