Well that was fun. I turned the speakers up and a couple of minutes into it I noticed my body leaning back and forth with the corners. Thanks for the boost. I am a few days away from getting mine.

ZR1= 7:26:04
13 seconds slower on a track about 13 miles long for a car half the price? I'll buy that. Oh wait, I did buy that.. a 2013 GT500!

7:39 is still about 2 seconds slower than the new Z28 and the Z28 also battled some rain on parts of the track.

That GT500 seemed all over the place, car always bouncing around, tires squealing more than they should, just looked like a car that's still being sorted out, not like the production version.

I can only imagine how much better it would've done with some real tires and a more buttoned-down suspension.

I said this already...give the car a proper set of Pilot Super Sports and see how it responds. I'm not sure the G:2 is the most appropriate tire for the GT500, and considering we've seen new S550 mules running PSS's on them, I suppose they'd be a solid upgrade.

Remember, the Z/28 had a partial wet lap (they claim a 7:31 was done on dry track but have no video to prove this) and were running Pirelli Trofeo R tires, which make the Pilot Sport Cup's look like a set of AS tires (the C6 ZR1 came with Sport Cups as an option).

Hell, put some real tires on it--run some 888's or the BFG PS2's. Stiffen the front end and watch that thing lay down 7:20's.

You mean 7:20's in the same way that someone who gets an 11.99 in the quarter has an 11 second car right.

As in, 7:29.99? No, I think it could run in the mid-20's easily, especially considering the car in the video is literally all over the track. A better line will shave multiple seconds off the time alone. I have the 888's on the front and back, and they are a complete revelation in terms of enabling my stock Shelby to maneuver through turns. The front goes through a turn like it's jerked around the corner, not as though it's going to push its way off the road. A stiffer suspension will further reduce the push.

Cool video, but i think people put to much stock in "The Ring" cars perform differently at different tracks. Just because the Z28 is faster here doesn't mean it is faster everywhere else. Another point is that the GT500 does all this as a near luxery coupe while the Z28 is a hardcore track car. Personally, I'd love Ford to start using some suspension tech like GM. I have to admit having driven some GM with the magnetic ride tech it is pretty amazing. There is a reason why supercars use this stuff, sure wonder what Ford has planned for the next SVT Mustang!

I see flat black stripes, and a screaming supercharger.. I don't think "luxury coupe" in the least.

The stripes may be off but luxury brands have been using turbos and superchargers forever...

The Shelby is more powerful than all Mustangs off the lot, and more powerful than a handful of vehicles universally; it is far from a dedicated track vehicle though, as it has tons of creature comforts that track vehicles simply do not. It's closer to a luxury car in stock trim than a race car.
