One of the reasons I didn't buy a GT500
If I wanted good mpg I'd get a hybrid or a beater civic. If I were able to get a Shelby mpg wouldn't be considered. The way I see it is this,...if I can afford to buy a Shelby then I can afford another 5-10k on a good mpg reliable Honda or something. If I can't afford another 5-10k then I can't afford a new Shelby. Just how I look at it.
I don't have a Shelby or a special mustang. Just a gt so I apologize if I irritate someone for posting here. I wanted a nice SUV, a muscle car, and a good back and forth to work car. So I got a grand Cherokee overland, a 5.0, and a scion. Ya I know, a scion lmao don't make fun of me too much lol.

My truck is my daily driver while the Roush stays all nice and warm and clean sleeping in the garage.
Nothing too special. (as of yet) Bob's oil separators, Sending the rims to California Chrome, that nice fancy padded arm rest, grill inserts (to save the radiator ect from rocks), and fog light upgrade to match the HID headlights.
Also looking and suspension upgrade in the future a bigger supercharger (once the warranty is off) and some other power mods. But these upgrades are for down the road.

Great start.
My dad gave me some really good advice years ago. He said never to base your car purchase decision on miles per gallon. Pick the car you want and then make the appropriate changes to your budget to allow for any increase / decrease in annual fuel costs. This way, you're always getting the car you want and the difference in the yearly cost of fuel will probably be way less than you think. You will NEVER look back with regrets and say "I really wish I had bought the Shelby instead of the GT when I had the chance."
Life is short. Take a chance and enjoy it for all it's worth!

I bought the grill inserts & put the 2013 grills back in our Shelby. I like it much better now.
Just picked up my '14 GT500 about two weeks ago. I'm probably getting close to the OP's alarming 9.5 mpg, perhaps a bit better. If driven responsibly I'm sure I can get as much as 12-13 mpg. I only got around 11 mpg when I had my Boss 302.
Driven on the interstate at anywhere near legal speeds in 6th gear, the mileage would likely be close to the stated 24 mpg as its only turning about 1600 RPM at 80 MPH. But that's not why you buy this car. You simply can't pass on the temptation to feel and hear what it will do with just a little push of the right foot.
So far, I'm driving mine every day and I love it. The added fuel cost buys a lot of happiness.

I consistently saw 18 MPG in the city and close to 24.5 to 25 on the highway with that Monster V8. I thought it did **** good.
not sure where you were doing your research but it failed you miserably.

I went with custom car grills' black Shelby inserts and I like the way it looks. It's hard to tell it's there unless one looks for it.

Wow...surprised this thread is still going. To update (and elaborate) on my original post, I would have loved to own a Shelby. I had one on special order before I got the GT. I didn't get into this in my original posts, but around 2 weeks before delivery my wife lost her job. I was still going to pull the trigger... I already dropped 1600 on Michelin PSS to replace the Goodyears, and sold my daily driver. I would be driving the Shelby in rain, sleet, snow 60 miles a day. On top of that, the 11mpg. I look back now and can't imagine how I would have made it all work with one income coming in and my money being burned in gas. You can't predict the future, but you can prepare for it. Moving forward with the decision to purchase the Shelby would have been terrible...and that's no fun. One day, when I'm ready and can afford it, I will buy one. I don't think that 2014 is the last we'll see of the Shelbys.

Over my 5,200 mile trip Knoxville-LA-Charlotte-Knoxville for the Mustangs Across America cruze to Charlotte for the 50th, I averaged 24.6 MPG...on some flat areas I averaged 26-29 MPG doing 75MPH.
But it's difficult to resist the urge to run it thru the gears in town...lol
