One of the reasons I didn't buy a GT500
I was very close to purchasing a 2013 GT500 as a DD until I saw this. I cancelled the order for a number of other reasons and went with a 2014 Cali Special instead. This is one of the main reasons why I cancelled the order. I understand that the MPG is a trade-off for the power of the GT500, but seriously... 9.5 MPG?? Note how this fuel gauge is at 3/4 and there is only 114 miles to empty with 1155 miles on the odometer. This makes me feel better about my decision to go with a GT. Sure, I don't have the power and presence of a GT500, but my average MPG is 20-22 with M6 and 3:55 gears. I also understand that the computer can be a little inaccurate...what are you guys getting out there with your average MPG?

The car is not moving. It's just idling there. What is the mpg at cruising speeds? I believe those numbers change depending on driving conditions. But whatever makes you feel better about buying much less of a car. :\

I averaged between 16-18MPG. (before winter storage) It's all in how hard your drive it. Those horses like to be fed. 9.5mpg? The exhaust sounds great but it is important to shift once in a while.
BTW if your buying this type of car your not looking at mileage lol

Not knocking the GT500 at all, it is a fantastic automobile. I researched it for quite some time before making up my mind and have seen similar gauge images of used GT500's on cars.com. I wish I could own one, but even 16 average MPG for a DD is not acceptable with my commute (65 miles per day) which is why I went with the GT. I guess I threw this out there because even when I drove my new GT off the lot, I didn't see the MPG meter this low. With spirited no-holds-barred driving, I get 16 MPG with the 5.0. I just find it hard to believe that the GT500 gets close to the same MPG.

I'm not pulling your leg! I believe the worst mileage I have had with the car is 15.5, and trust me I have red lined it more than a few times. That 6 speed tranny is nice for fuel economy.

I've had a few beers and just messing with you guys. I love mustangs and the GT500, just surprised at this photo is all. Wanted to see what you all were getting MPG-wise.

If you have a 65 mile commute, the GT500 may have got better gas mileage. My 2013 GT500 vs my 2013 GT/Stage 3 Roush vs my 2011 GT Vert, the GT500 gets better gas mileage on the interstate/Hwy. All are highly modded and have been within hours of purchase, so no idea how a stock car does.
Manually calculating my MPG I get 15.8 average (shows 13.5 on dash-never reset), that's modded with plenty of WoT or spirited driving. Interstate/Hwy driving I get 22-24 MPG in the Shelby, even with my mods.

I burn 1/2 tank after 3 trips down the drag strip. Figure 1/2 tank through the traps and back 3times= 1-1/2 miles per 6 or so gallons. Someone figure out the math for me.

The 11 thru 14 GT500's don't pay the gas guzzler tax, that should be a hint !!
.
My 2011, before I started modding it, with less than 1500 miles, got 24.2.mpg
( 3.55 gears ).................the 13/14's have 3.31's
Driving habits determine your mpg....................I think you made a poor choice.

The 2010 Shelby did not have a guzzler tax either.

If you have the means to drive this car as a DD, then hats off to you. I don't think I made a bad decision actually. I bought a mustang because I love them. There is no other car out there that I actually like. I bought a GT because of the better MPG/power you get for it. Even if the above photo is inaccurate, a GT will always get better MPG than a Shelby. I want to have my cake and eat it too. I also said there were other reasons why I didn't buy a Shelby. The price. I'd rather have a $300/month car payment than a $700 one. The insurance is more money in NJ (one of the highest insurance rates in the country). Also if I owned a Shelby and drove it to and from work I would always worry about the weather, bad drivers, flying rocks, bird poop, shopping carts, etc, etc. Those things are a little easier to accept when the car is half the price. I envy you guys a little for having the means to drive this fantastic car, but I am not unhappy in my decision. I can drive a mustang to work every day and that's just awesome.

I have installed long tube headers along with a racing tune and pulley swap on my '13, and the worst mileage I get (average) is roughly around 16mpg. Highway driving is up toward 20mpg if I'm not playing.
Of course a GT will always get better MPG than a Shelby; that's why one's a GT and one's a Shelby. As far as price, do your homework and find a car that isn't marked up. Put money aside when you don't have to spend it. I pay less than $300/month for mine. Talk about having your cake and eating it too...
