Aluminum Block Now Available on 2010 GT500???
Well, I just grabbed a camera, magnet, & flashlight and checked out our freshly arrived 2010 GT500. I won't waste my time uploading pics (because it has an iron block). If it had been aluminum I would have snapped pics, but it seemed a moot point since it turned out to be iron. Ours being iron doesn't mean that someone else couldn't have an aluminum block, but that would seem quite unlikely, IMO.
Gotta say, you really cannot see the block from the top of the engine bay. The cylinder heads are so wide and so close to the shock towers, plus the exhaust manifolds shield the view of the side of the block. And, the front dress of the engine is aluminum and is covering the entire front of the block. The only way to see the block is from underneath, which is what I ended up doing.
I'd sure like to think that Ford has started a mid-year switch over to aluminum blocks in the GT500, but our car was built in mid-August and it's iron, so I'm thinking aluminum is still on hold until the '11's start production.

'11 GT500s are running around with AL blocks. A guy on stangbangerz.com (347sc) spotted 3 (and a Raptor) at a gas station and spoke with the drivers from FMC.
Wonder if the Raptor had the 6.2?
the driver wouldnt pop the hood but did say it made 540 hp and had an aluminium block and that they were pretty much production versions. They all of course had Michigan Manufacturer plates.
AL blocks on GT-500, that is good news... did they mentioned anything about handling ?
