Let's make it clear, we're not talking about people who want an auto in their 500, we're talking about people who WOULDN'T buy a 500 if there wasn't an auto in it and I'll say it again. Ford isn't going to do it for 50 sales when the current production run sells just fine. Thank you
Sigh...

You're SO far behind in the race you actually think you're winning.

So there's just no point in even discussing anymore.

So yes, you are right! Your vast knowledge, excellent view points and use of factual based information, stands correct! not to mention fortitude and experiences in the car industry outweigh every one else's. And yes, you're precious, ultra rare, limited edition, 2011 GT500 is so scarce that I'm sure it's in your living room appreciating- probably next to a sign proclaiming 'we'll will never live to see the day of an auto GT500.' - So while it sits to be worth 29% of it's MSRP 60 years from now, we'll all know it wont slip into white noise along side the other limited 70,000+ S197 GT500s, from 9 production years. 20 years from now. Absolutely not.

So I get it. No worries. Very sound.

What was that babble? I drive "manually shift" my 500 every single day and apparently you weren't even smart enough to wait for the 302. Game over, you lose.

Call me crazy but i think MAYBE more than 50 gt500's will be sold if auto was an option. Maybe 50 in your state but theres 49 other states too. An auto would be a very nice OPTION. Thats the only thing thats really been asked. What would u think if it were an option? Yes it will cost money but it will open up the market to so many more buyers. More buyers = $$$$$$

Have you priced some of the HP cars you're listing that have ATs with paddle shift? Corvette does not offer an AT in the Z06 or ZR1, you have to go with the base Corvette or the Grand Sport.

A Grand Sport (430 hp) with the 3LT package which is comparably equipped to a Shelby w/SVTPP pkg and Nav. including 6-speed manual has a base MSRP of $62,895. If you want the AT w/ paddle shift add another $1,300. We looked at one Grand Sport coupe the other day that was over $70,000. That's why a 2012 Shelby GT500 now shares the garage with our 2 vettes.

Some people already say the price of the Shelby is too high. What's it going to be if you add on an AT w/ paddle shift which is the type of transmission all these newer HP cars have. People are also getting accustomed to seeing the paddle shift in HP cars, so the standard AT currently found in the Mustang GT may seem antiquated if put in a Shelby.

Chevy is spreading the cost of the Corvette's AT between the base Corvette coupes/verts and the Grand Sport coupes/verts. Ford would probably have to develop the transmission to use in both the Mustang GT and Shelby in order to keep the cost down.

Exactly. Not to mention the guy that keeps throwing up high performance cars with a DCT. Many of those are 10-15 thousand dollar options in those cars. Even developing a regular auto that will handle the power of the 500 would be a massively expensive option when you consider that the cost is only going to be spread among a car that is produced in only about 5000 units per year. Heck, the widely used auto they already have is a $2000 option in the GT, developing a completely new trans that might only be used in a couple thousand units a year (at most) would probably have to be priced at 2-3 times that, if not more. Not saying its sacrilege to offer an auto in the car, its just not economically viable for such a niche vehicle at the price point it falls into.

There have been several references made in this thread where an AT is going to be offered in the 2012 Camaro ZL1. According to Road & Track, Car & Driver, the presses releases from the Chicago Auto Show and Chevrolet's website http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro-zl1/...1_specs#image1

the only transmission offered in the ZL1 will be the 6-speed short-throw Tremec manual (sound familiar?). Where are they finding that an AT is going to be offered?

It was listed in the info guide that leaked out earlier this week. The auto is an option, manual is std.

Here is a copy of the guide. I was all set to get a ZL1 until they reveald the limited production. Since then I have looked at the Mustangs and really digging on a '12 GT500 w/SVTPP, Black with Nav and Recaros. Working with a dealer right now to get it for 51.5, does that sound like a good price?

That's good. MSRP should a bit over $57K. I got mine with x-plan, this deal would be better.

Here is what it says about the ZL1 Auto in the Guide:
Hydra-Matic® 6L90 6-Speed Automatic
The optional automatic transmission version of the ZL1 is a fully
integrated powertrain offering that is unique to the segment. The
Mustang GT500 and Boss models do not offer anything except
manual transmissions. The Hydra-Matic 6L90 is built to handle
the massive torque (556 lb.-ft.) and power (580 horsepower) put
out by the 6.2L supercharged V8. Included on the 6L90 are a
strengthened input gearset with two additional pinion gears and
a strengthened output gearset. Steering wheel paddle shifting will
make shifts quick and convenient.
I would order a GT500 with this option if available.

I wonder what if any change the 6L90 AT has on fuel consumption. Do you think it would affect the Shelby enough to get smacked with the gas guzzler tax?

I thought most modern AT's got as good or better gas mileage than MT's.

If Ford went ahead and developed an auto and it helped fuel economy enough to nearly match the auto 5.0 how do you think it would affect the market?

No, I'm talking women in GTR's, AMG's, Porche's, Vette's, Mustang GT's, and I've seen at least three women driving Ferrari's. There's a lady who is 59 years old that lives about three miles from me with an automatic Audi R8 R-Tronic. Also have seen a few BMW M3's with women drivers. All automatics. The ONE woman I've seen driving a brand new Corvette ZR1 was shifting that bad boy like any man can. She launched that thing from a stoplight so hard, it was impressive as hell!

LOL she's not doing it on purpose, most old people don't have a sense of speed. They either punch it and drive too fast or don't and drive too slow.
