Question Convertible with 3.73's??

What would it take to get the Convertible upgraded from a 3.31 to 3.73? I think a 3.31 is what you can get (mose aggressive gear).

BUT- If done by the Ford Dealership, would it interfere with the manufacturers 3 year warranty, and if so what part of the warranty would it invalidate? The whole thing?

I'm on the fence about a convertible. Only way I'd do it is, if I can upgrade my rear axle to a 3.73.

Help, if anyone knows- or if this has been discussed.

Thanks guys

I would think if you have Ford install the gears the warranty would still be in tact. I plan on getting an 11GT vert and will have them put in the 3.73's for me.

Someone certainly in the know can confirm this however.

When I did my 3.73s, I inquired of my Ford dealer to have the work done. They quoted me nearly 1500 for the Job. almost 800 in parts alone. But it would have had no effect on the warranty. That is nearly double what a reputable drive line shop charged to install FORD OEM gears. So I had Coast Drive Line throw in one of their Aluminum drive shafts while they were at it. The two made a very nice improvement in my giddy up.

The dealerships set their prices as though they were saying don't come here. Which is a huge mystery to me. Unless it so they can rape the manufactures on warranty work. Guess they have enough work in spite of it though.

ive already talked to mine about this and they said they would have no problem installing a FRPP gear set and keep my warranty entact. However i still have to deal witht he speedometer change with a engine so new it will take a while.

This is another reason i dont have a problem waiting till the fall. I want 3.73 before i drive it off the lot

This is interesting topic-

Theres no way i'd pay $1500 for a 3.73 gear swapout. That's insane. That would have to have included the speedo changeout and calibration to the computer if needed.

With that being said, the fellow below here, trick25 said something about waiting till fall. They aren't going to be having 3.73's in the Job 2 convertible are they?

I believe the only way to get 3.73's in a vert right now is the Shelby 500. They offer it on that car. WHY NOT ON THE 5.0's??? They sure do know how to make people ordering or buying a new car, crazy...

It's either hardtop or convertible for me. I just cant see myself spending that extra money for a glass top-- A convertible would be nice to drop on that 5.0 and I'd be the coolest Dad dropping my kids off to school!

That's ridiculous. They should be able to reflash the computer right then and there.

FRPP offers a speedo recal unit now that works on all the new cars.

There is a trans and gear shop I know of in Houston that will install the gears for $250 and you can get FRPP gears for $150-$200 so you can get the gear change done for less than $500 plus $150 for the recal unit.

Don't know if the dealer can just do a reflash for a gear change though.

Had 3:73's put on my car by the dealer, ran about $750 but kept all warrantys intact. yeah, I paid a bit more but if I have a problem it will be covered coast to coast. Deff a great improvement from the stock gears. I have a tune so the ratio change was done on the SCT.

The recal unit is brand new, saw it in the Ford Racing newsletter.
