2011 California Special & SVT Performance Package
What?
What's the problem now?
Am I supposed to take everything a GT500 owner says as gospel just because they own a GT500?
I like the car. I don't care for part of the name. It's not like a I said it sucked or something.

If it's an "SVT COBRA", then why is it officially called a "Shelby GT500"? They may essentially be the same thing, but there's a lot in a name....
Ok, this is the 1st time I am writing anything on this site or any other site, so a "post virgin" if you will; but this subject has really gotten me riled up! As an owner of 2 GT's (yes both 5.0's a '93 hatch and a '95 vert) and a "Cobra" ( yes again a '95 5.0), and a BIG FAN of the 1st generation stangs, I must say that I side with member "2k7gtcs" regarding the SVT VS Shelby lettering! Anyone that know their pony history recalls the glory days of the '60's when there was a romance between ford and ol man Shelby! does anyone recall the fight betwenn the two and the '80's when ol man Shel was cranking out Dodge's??? Hell let me announce my radical idea on this forum, and how about ford giving where the credit is DUE, and lets name it the "COLETTI"! Put that on the back of the 2011 SVT COBRA, or at the very least put that as an option and see who and how many order that option!!! Ok thats my 5 cents worth! And I hope the GT will be the 5.0, cause thats what I am waiting for and that's where my money will go! Galpin Ford is waiting!

I really don't see the need to argue a trivial point like badges on a car. If the name SVT is on it, then you know the performance is there to back it up. If Ford wants to continue to put Shelby's name on the car, let them. It's still a great looking car that performs, even if it was called the SVT Chinchilla, it would still go fast.
Bottom line is this, if you don't like the name, don't buy one. If you want one, buy it and take the badges off. You make it sound like it's some travesty for putting his name on it. I like the throwback to earlier cars, so I think it's fitting. Strip all the stripes off and leave the snakes, and it's a great follow-up to the Terminator. Just depends on how you look at it.
Bpmurr, I highly doubt that the SVT Perf. package is going to offer staggered fitment. It'll be the same 19's that the coupe has or a second wheel choice exclusive to the package.

I would line up for a Colletti branded stang
shelby's name doesn't belong on the car anymore IMO. he's put no effort into the design or build of the GT500, and the only reason his name is there is for boosted sales and so greedy dealers can overcharge for a name. His name was put on the car in anticipation of it becoming a future collectible, and all its done is feed ADMs.
the SVT cobra was a sleek, sedated mustang that romped the competition when it had to. it wasnt trivially named just so that all the fanboys could drool "ZOMG ITS ARE A SHELBY" all shelby does is grub for money these days
/rant off

I don't like the "classic Mustangs" or give a crap about Shelby. I bought one however because it is the meanest, baddest Mustang ever built. No other compares. All this emotion over a name, lol. Again, it would take 1 minute to debadge the car.

I'm expecting a 20x10.5 with a 305 on it as an option, staggered. It's not like you can rotate the tires anyway as is.
The point that some do not get here regarding, again, the whole "NAME" game with shelby vs SVT, is that CREDIT must be given where credit is due! Do you really believe that there would have been a "Terminator" Cobra or even a GT500, both supercharged, if there wasnt a modern day mr shelby by the name of JOHN COLETTI??????? Its not about price or buy it or dont buy it, its about pride and heritage! What did ol man Shel do, he jumped back on the Ford bandwagon for the profit not for the pride, when everything was already done by SVT regarding the 2007 GT500; the last thought was where and how to put the name! Thats why the name on the '07 to '09 GT500's is on the left side, and on the '10 its on the entire back end! But I digress! Lets think back when all this happened late in 2004! I dont know how many of you were at SEMA '04, but there was a whole lotta rumbling about how John Coletti is leaving SVT, and wow all of a sudden word of a Shelby GT500 in the same time frame! Can anyone out there put these two thoughts together and get past the "Just take the Badges of the car if you dont like them"! Great thanks go out ot Evil_Capri for getting what I am trying to say here, but them again it might be a generational thing! I am editor Turner's age, hahaha! You guys that read the mags know what I am saying, and my life was similar to Turner's! THX for you support, and drink Bartles and James!!!! LMAO!!
Well if you don't like, don't buy one.
The main reason for the side scoops is that they are one of the main styling elements of the original 68 GT/CS. The 05-09 design intent was the same as the 68, with the side scoops, side stripe, and Shelby styled front and rear ends. Personally I'm hoping the GT/CS doesn't come back, as there are many other versions that are deserving to be brought back. I'd love to see a stripped down GT with the track pack and 5.0 show up as a Boss 302.
