GT500KR hood available?
Man, the hood is what sells me on this edition.
i hope Shelby makes it available for purchase after the KR is released, cause it would look great any GT500 or GT->GT500 clone

68 style ram air, very similar. The thing that makes it is that the nostrils are very close to the leading edge of the hood. I'm on the list baby!

No offense to those of you that like the Alliance hood, but I think it fails in comparison to the look of the KR hood. It's like they tried to make the KR hood and just missed. The KR hood is the way to go...at least for those of us with Shelby clones or true Shelbys.

And until I can actually BUY a KR it's the way I'll go. Certainly the KR is better, but it doesn't exist yet. Believe me, the minute I can get one I'll have one.

So you guys are saying you're going to buy one hood and paint it and put it on your car, then a few months down the road (granted they make it) swap your Race car factory hood out for a KR hood?

seeing as there is no guarentee that Shleby does release the KR, i think i will go with the RCF hood, and if in the way off chance that the KR hood is made for aftermarket purchase, then i will try and sell the RCF hood and get the KR one. but i dont want to stick with stock while i twiddle my thumbs and hope that Shelby decides to sell the KR hood

It's only money! I've got my ear to the ground and I'm working with some of my internal sources to try to find out what is in the pipeline. I should know pretty soon. At this point there's less than a 50% chance it will be available. At the same time, there's a greater than 50% chance they might build more than 1,000 units. Who knows?

I read in an Edmunds artical that they will NOT be offering the hood to the public. When interviewed, the Shelby crew did not give a straight answer about it. It went something like this:
"Will you be offering aftermarket parts off of the KR?"
"Maybe we'll offer even BETTER parts to Shelby fans"
So, since I cannot wait around for a hood that might never come out. I am modifying my GT500 hood (it's a fiberglass version) to be a KR hood. I am not attempting the vents though.
If it works I might sell copies of the scoop section I build. It would require body work but those of you with a GT500 hood could make it work.

Yao, I could be mistaken but I thought I saw on an interview that it might be. I think Shelby is looking to make more "kit" options available in the future. But Dave 2 spots above me may be right.

TMS: Will the hood be available in the aftermarket?
AB: Yes, eventually. Shelby Autos is looking more into 'kits'. We want to allow people to build their own Shelby with the exception of the small badges and such.

Well I'll be done with mine long before they ever decide whether to sell it or not. What you see here is just the clay mockup on a GT500 hood. I will make a mold of the clay scoop and then bond, rivit and blend it into the hood.
