Whine when in Reverse

I have a 2005 5-speed manual v6 and it will be out of warranty next month so I wanted to get some things fixed prior to the warranty running out. When I put the car in reverse and begin moving it makes a loud and very noticable (and embarassing) whine noise. Is it supposed to do this or is this a known problem? Anyone else have this issue. I found these two TSBs but Im not sure they describe the problem Im having. http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/gala...3AxelWhine.pdf

Anyone have this on their car and can help, or can anyone tell me if one of those TSBs is the correct fix? Thanks!

If you are giving it some gas in reverse, cars usually do, my old pickup did it a lot.

At any speed above say...3-5 mph in reverse, you will hear a whine from the tranny. That is normal, 99% of manual tranny cars make the same noise. Some are louder than others, but almost all make it.

It has to do with the cut of the gears in the transmission itself. Forward gears are cut with an angle, reverse gears are cut straight and can make a whine because of that. I don't know why they are cut straight, but there is a reason I'm sure.

Has it always done it, or did it just start? Whine in reverses is normal on a lot of manual trannys.

Its been doing it since day one. I swear though it has gone louder and more noticable recently. Yes it does only do it when moving above 3-5 mph. This is my first car with a manual transmission so judging by the answers im getting here it may just be normal.

Why is it that every post that has to do with V6's you bash? If you don't like the V6 or people who own them then stay your GT primadonna self on the GT side of things. No one cares about your opinion in the V6 community.

Reverse whine

Actually, some of the articles I've read about the V6 Mustang is that it's one of the fastest V6's around; however, it has a noisy transmission. Mine whines when I'm in first gear, then shortly before the shift, goes away. At first I thought maybe it was the throw out bearing but it's only got 21K miles on it. I think it just thinks it's got a supercharger on it (just kidding). I think it's just the nature of the beast. If it shifts fine, don't worry about it. I've had lots of cars that whine in reverse -- both manual and automatic.

This is what I have always been told is the reason. Reverse gears are Straight cut gears.
