What Did I just hear!!

I turned onto a back country road and hit it. Suddenly I heard what sounded like a blowout, but after slowing down I did not feel a tire down. The noise was a bang with hissing, loud. The rest of the way home was normal, until I go in my driveway.

The low tire pressure light came on. So I parked it in the garage and looked all over the car, nothing could be seen that indicated a problem. So I checked the air pressure in one tire that looked a little low and it was, aired it up and the light went out, after a few starts.

I doesn't seem the two are connected, no blowout for sure and the tire was only down maybe 5 pounds (I just got a oil change at the dealership, maybe they flunked air pressure.

I have not driven it yet because of the weather but does anybody have a clue? I'm starting to think it came from somewhere else but nobody was around, except a few houses. The spare tire is OK.

Yes, just like that would sound. I'm beginning to think it was not from my car, it didn't sound like a backfire and I had a good 1/2 tank and was straight, and it has never backfired before. It sure was unsettling though.

yeah, doublecheck your AC compressor...my wife's uncle's old '79 fairmont compressor blew up one day when he went to pull out of our driveway, loud pop, and hissing freon for a few seconds...found a nice hole in the side of the compressor housing.

could have a broken belt in tire sidewall- they can let a 'bubble' form betweel layers of rubber, and 'pop' a part of the outer layer...might want to spray some soapy water on the low tire, look for a slow leak in a deformed looking part of the tire...careful as if they start to break down internally they can blowout suddenly- the kind of blowout that can tear up bodywork. my wifes avalanche came with bfg wrangler hp's and we had 2 break belts/blowout in 3 years- one of the worst rated tires on tirerack.com's site...

maybe if you jumped on it hard enough your lumbar support airbag popped from the G's
