Straps holding vert top to frame ripping...
I have a 2007 GT Vert which I have had for almost 4 years now. I noticed this spring while cleaning the inside of the top that two of the straps that hold the top to the frame are fraying and close to breaking. The problem is that you don't see it when the top is up or down, so it has probably been like this for a while and I never noticed. It only have 18k miles on it and is babied. The issue isn't due to lack of care, but a defect in the build.
I took it to the dealer and they said that it is out of warranty and that my extended wouldn't cover it. I had an interior shop look at it today and the guy recommended I fight with Ford. He said otherwise I am looking at a min of $300 to fix and potentially a new top for $700.
I searched the board and didn't find any other cases of this. I was hoping to find a TSB, but nothing yet. Got any ideas? I'm going back to the dealer and while we all know Ford SHOULD fix it, I need to come up with some ammo to MAKE them fix it.
Here are some pics...

Thanks, I looked into those. Unfortunately, none of them apply to my situation. I need to go back to the dealer to handle a recall and I plan on having a talk with them then.

I had this problem. It was fixed under warranty. Ford recommended replacing the top, and fabric tape was placed over the ends of the metal ribs (cheap fix, Ford) that were rubbing through the top.
Otherwise, you could fix this yourself. Get some elastic and sew it on yourself, and cover the rib ends.
Cheers

My warranty expires in about 2 weeks and the mild marks above the windows that many are getting seem to have worsened. I plan to get this looked at next week by a local Ford dealer who did one of the first top swaps with the new style. I also plan to look for this fraying as well.
Do you have any signs of the wear marks on your top?
