Something scary on the freeway this past weekend...

I was in the carpool lane that was stopped with the other lanes moving pretty fast.

So i stopped and let a little gap with the car in front of me and picked my time to jump out and into flowing traffic.

I gave it a little gas, let the clutch out and nailed it to the floor to pull out with most haste...

The car went "puh....pop " and went nowhere... almost like it got no fuel and was giving up the ghost right there... I had almost a full tank too!

I pushed in the clutch and turned the wheel back into the carpool lane and the car stayed running..

Repeated my process once i gave it gas to get the revs up and kept them higher and no problems.

I had that problem and got the TSB done. As far as I know there are 2 ways to fix it. One is through the back seat, the other is from underneath. My dealer insisted it had to be done from underneath. After I picked up my car I had a VERY bad vibration at around 30 mph. Turns out the procedure requires dropping the driveshaft and they put it back 180 degress out of phase, causing a balance issue. They fixed it but had my car 2 days. But as far as the fuel pump...yes it did fix the problem.

Interesting... I thought that only '05s had the fuel-pump issue and Ford started putting in new fuel-pumps in the 06s... but it looks like two of you guys had the fuel pump issues with 06s ????

thanks for the replies.

I'll probably swing by the dealer this weekend and talk to them about it.

I'll return my car to stock tune before I go.

I just hate leaving my car at the dealership for some tool to flog around while i'm not there. Although I have no go fast mods I dont want some asshat bottoming out my lowered car.. and god knows what else.

i hate dealerships

This smae problem happened to me the other night too. I was on a deserted stretch of highway. I took off in second as I came onto the stretch, hit third rode up to around 100mph and let off the gas. Next thing I look at the guages and I am not running, rpm needle ot 0 and the battery lights etc on. I put it in neutral and cranked back up as I was rolling. Never did it again. Is this the fuel tsb? Should I take it to the dealership?

If your engine actually died then no, this is not the same problem. I've read lot's of peoples reports about the fuel pump issue and all it ever did was fail to deliver gas for a second or less. I never saw a report of engine dying because of it. Also it almost always only happens when you have been holding at a certain speed for a few minutes, like in cruise control.

Should I be concerned that my car died after hard acceleration or just forget about it? This problem happened once when I had my V6 also?

I had the hesitation and fuel gauge TSB's repairs about a month ago and have not been able to reproduce the hesitation, so it looks like it worked. Oh, my fuel gauge works again too! FYI, it only took them about two hours to replace the fuel pump and both sender units.

stealership hired a bunch of rookies i guess...

wonder if this would be a good time to upgrade the intank fuel pump to something bigger in anticipation for FI next spring/summer??

Instead of having them fix it? and risk scewing somthing else up.?
