Angry o6 mustang gas tank issues

looking to hear from anyone who has had problems filling up the gas tank on their 06 mustang. Mine was built feb 06 and I was told by FOrd consumer care that their is no wat I am having this problem and the can not do anything for me so thr ey have called me a liar. They also said that just because a Ford mechanic said it was a poor desing on Fords part there is no way Ford can belive that and I need to take it back to the dealer to fix it. The dealer says there is no fix so this is a catch 22. I love my mustang I just hate that I can not fill it up all the time as I drive 50 for work. So if you are fedd up with this same problem please let me know.

had this problem when i first got the car... a year and 8 mths. ago.
had it twice , those times i'd turn the nozzle to the twelve o'clock position and continue filling the tank, it will work fine in this position, only shutting off when full... but i had'nt needed that old trick, well... in about 20 mths, i really had forgotten about that.

The problem is the gas tank breather filter. Somewhere there is a self fix posted. The filter needs to be cleaned/replaced so that air can escape through it when you are filling the tank.

i hope you can find that self fix... but the question is, why would this breather filter be dirty on a new car. and why did mine fix itself.

I had the problem when I first got it, intermittently since then. It seems to have gotten worse this past month though, probably 3 times in 4 weeks. It really sucks! I've found that going slow on filling is the best solution for me. I usually put the nozzle on the first click, and it fuels more slowly.

My 06GT build date was 5/3/06. I've only encountered the fill problem 4-5 times in the 10 months of ownership. First two were my first 2 fill-ups.. last one was yesterday. I used to believe if you filled on the slowest flow speed.. problem could be avoided; however, yesterday was an ultra slow flow speed.. and it shut off (and wouldn't continue to fill) about 2 gallons short anyway.

I've been doing it like that ever since I got my car 27 months ago... never have any issues.

p.s. Before anyone asks, I pretty much refuse to let a dealer touch my car. Dealers are there for selling cars... not working on them, IMO. hehe

I have it on my '06 Auto and it's only at certain pumps at certain gas stations.

I fill up at the Same 2 or 3 stations and there is a pump or two at each that fill fine. If I don't get my "favorite" pump I get the early cut off then I have to argue with the non english speaking gas station attendant that the tank is not full and how to flip the nozzle upside down to finish it off.

My 07 GT hasn't had a problem with any of the gas stations. I make sure the nozzle isn't inserted too deep and fill at the slowest setting. I know someone with a 05 GT that has had the problem since day 1 and he's frustrated with it.

The self-fix is for clearing the fresh air intake of the Evaporative canister system. The rubber tube is frequently clogged up with rocks, dirt, leaves, and the dreaded spider egg sac. However, note that if this tube is genuinely clogged, then you will hear a WHOOSH whenever you open the fuel filler cap since it cannot vent out the vacuum.

I only had this problem once and that was last month. I just repositioned the nozzel and it worked perfectly. This was the only time I had a problem and I've had my car since September.

The Meijer nozzles won't let you insert it past a certain point.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (06-3-13
FUEL FILL SLOW, OR DIFFICULT TO FILL) that may be applicable.

My 06 seems to have the gas fill problem when it's very hot and humid.

This issue has been around since the first 2005 Mustang hit the streets.

There is a vent canister in the rear of the car. Its under the black thing in the rear that you always see when under the car and wonder "wonder whats under this thing".

The gas take vent line runs through this canister and then the line from the canister runs to the intake.

This canister should be removed cleaned/replaced and then reinstalled.

Some guys have went a step further and blown out the vent lines only to find dirt in them.

There ya go.
