I got two keys..... two remotes

Dealer said if you bring the two keys to the dealer they can make another spare key alot cheaper (it was $25 I had one made)
If you lose one key it cost like $100 to make a spare key with only one key.

I was told by the Service Manager that the Mustang comes with two keys. These are PATS keys with a chip inside the key. New keys can be cut by the dealer, but the actual programming of the key is done by you. But you have to have two keys that are already programmed. A new key is about $30. To program the new key you insert one programmed key in the ignition and turn to the first position. Then insert the second programmed key in to the ignition and turn it to the first position. Then insert the new key and turn to the first position and wait for about 10 seconds. Then remove it and wait about 30 seconds. Now all your keys should start the car. If you only have one programmed key then the dealer needs to clear the computer and redo new keys. This cost much more than $30.

The service manager said it was smart to always have three keys that way if you lose one you can still program a new key. I believe that he said this could be done up to 11 times.

Are your dealers marking up those keys ? My car came with 2 keys and 2 fobs. I went to the dealer parts counter to have them make a spare (3rd) key. It cost me $18.63 for the spare. I did the programming thing, and it works great.

Page 70 of the owners manual tells you how to program an additional forb & page 73 tells you how to program your own key ~ up to 4 forbs & 8 keys. WITHOUT the dealer being involved.

Hi.
Do You know why it is like that ?…… I mean why its required with 2 masters before one more can be made. ?

I was thinking because it can avoid other drivers to make a extra key without the owner knows. But that conflict when You got 2 keys for a rental car ?
