Fuel filter

Fuel filter
Changed the fuel filter in my 2005 G.T. last night with 30,000 miles. The fuel came out of the old one so brown that I couldn't see the bottom of the bucket I poured it in. I realize the importance of maintenance (I'm a parts man at a fairly large Ford dealership), but I just would have never thought it would have been that filthy. I noticed that a slight miss it had developed, VERY slight, seemed to be gone now. Any thoughts on this? Should I use big name gas? I always burn premium, because of the tune. My city mileage with 4.10's has dropped from the stock 3.55's to 15.5 from about 17 or 18. Hopefully, this will help eradicate some of this drop.

My thoughts are the filters done it's job for you. You have no control of the quality of fuel being served to you at the pumps. You could at any time be filling from a service station pump tank that's low on fuel, just tanker refilled or the pump filters poorly serviced. Any of the following could result in water in fuel from low tank, stirred tank debris from refill or dirty or no filter on pumps. I don't know for sure if all pumps use filters.
Thanks for reminding me to change the fuel filter on my truck, it's due.

Just how hard was it to change on your car? I need to do a 30,000 mile maintenance here in the next couple of months on my 2006 GT....

yep good write up in that link. Mine had the slim clips that that you can push in with your fingernail. Glad I read the notes below the write up. My filter definitely needed to be changed at 56k. I would say ford could have made it easier to change. The cover should be a little larger than the filter and held on with one nut maybe two. The clips on the filter are fine and easy to deal with.
