Engine dying on slow down

Ok, so I replaced my battery this afternoon at lunch.
Went from a Motorcraft BXT 40R and bought a Super Start from O'Reilly:
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0423&ppt=C0005

Now, this morning when the car konked out, I removed the battery so I could go buy a new one at lunch. So my car had no battery in it for 4 hours or so.

So after I replaced the battery, doing some in town driving, when I would slow to a stop, the idle would dip down below 500rpm and the engine would die. I have minor mods, Granatelli Cast CAI, and Flowmaster 17410. I've never had this issue before at all (2005 GT, 62K miles). One time, after the engine died, I would turn the key and the car wouldn't restart immediately. A/C was blowing, radio was on, but the engine wouldn't turn over for good 30+ seconds.

Did having power out for so long reset the computers to some default and the engine has to relearn? Any other ideas? Is the new battery affecting this somehow?

Have you ever cleaned the throttle body? Sounds like what happened to me one time. Disconnect battery, take off TB, clean TB, reinstall TB, reinstall battery, drive for 10 miles, all retrained.

Bet that's it.

Happened to me too. I tried the TB clean, and it helped, but I still had the problem on occasion. I had a Brenspeed tune and they tried to fix it, but it still kept happening. I tried a Bama tune and it did it too, but after talking w/ Doug @ Bama he was able to redo something in the tune to make the RPM's drop slower and more stable, which cured the problem.

Ok, being the cautious type that I am, is there a "how to" on cleaning the throttle body? I assume just unbolt it and wipe it down? Or is there more?

Get some TB cleaner, (NOT carb cleaner). I think Taco might have done a write up.

Thanks houtex & 05GT-O.C.D. for the recommendation!

And another thanks 05GT-O.C.D. for specifying the TB cleaner. When I first went in the store and said I wanted TB cleaner, the guy got me carb cleaner. I stayed emphatic about the TB cleaner and we finally got me a bottle of CRC TB cleaner.

I found this nugget doing a search (didn't see a link in Taco's list):

So, took off the TB, cleaned it up, put it back on, drove my normal commute and ZERO issues!

Again, thanks guys! Amazing something so "minor" has such a huge impact.

Fantastic! Yeah, it's incredible how sensitive these cars are getting, but that's actually kind of good, if you think about it.

Anyways, glad that worked!
