Engine, driveline, or exhaust knocking when warming up.

It's been around 35F these past few weeks, or colder when I start my car.

When I first start the vehicle, the engine is quiet. You can stand outside the car, and after a minute or two the knocking starts. It's not a tick, more of a knock. This continues until the engine gets up to operating temp, when the noise is gone again.

Probably nothing I'll ever track down. I think exhaust manifold leaks are higher pitched. It sounds like it's coming from the transmission/flywheel area. I've heard of the ring gears separating from the flywheel on these cars, making a noise until the car is warm and the parts fit more tightly. Could also be piston slap I suppose, however you'd think that would be most prevalent immediately upon startup.

Anyone else have a similar "issue" or any insight?

Thanks
