emissions light not going off

this morning on my way to work the emissions light/ check engine light went on. first thing i did was pull over to check all my fluids and everything was up to par so i figured it had to do with my CAI. i drive to work with absolutely no problem.

after it got light out i looked under the hood again and saw that my K&N CAI tube had become disconnected from the throttle body. after reconnecting it and tightening the clamps i figured the light would eventually go off but it hasnt. i drove about 50 miles to get home and it never turned off.

could it be the filter is that dirty? its been on the car for about 12,000 miles and i havent cleaned it. or would disconnecting the battery reset the computer and fix the problem.

maybe this is the excuse ive been looking for to break down and buy a tuner hahahahah

also, a friend of mine has a SCT X-CALIBRATOR 2 for his 07 V6. if i plugged that into my car would it atleast tell me what the idiot light means?

It takes time for the car to run through another diagnostic cycle. Its possible that it might not have completed the next cycle yet.

Have you checked with a local auto parts store? Some chains like Auto Zone or Checker have OBD II scanners available for customer use to identify DTC codes.

Your friend's X-Cal will read the codes, then you can look them up online to see what it means. It is most definitely because the tube came off the intake though, that will set off a code very quickly. The X-cal can also clear the code and reset the light. Super easy, and takes about 10 seconds to do.

The only thing your buddy's X-Cal can't do is program the car, since it is a different car.

A similar thing happens to our Toyota Highlander (my daily driver while the GT rests in our garage) when I take it anywhere for an oil change other than the dealership. A hose from the airbox must be disconnected to get to the air filter element. They ALWAYS forget to reconnect the hose, so I reconnect it, but the engine warning light will not go off. It always has to be reset. Now, I check to see if the hose has been hooked up before I even leave the oil change place so I don't have that engine light issue.

well after removing the CAI completely, giving the tube a good cleaning and using K&N's air filter recharge kit the emissions light still would not go off. i got restless and removed the negative battery terminal, waited 10 seconds and voila.....no more idiot light!

thanks alot for the help guys. i really appreciate it.

and now i can actually feel alittle more pick-up after cleaning the filter so it was win win
