Squeak on cold startup

Just seeing if this happens to anyone else. Everytime I start my engine (which has 620 miles on the clock if that matters) cold after it's been sitting for hours (usually in the morning before I go to work), the engine off and on makes this hollow squeaking noise like someone playing notes on a glass or a kid blowing a note on a recorder.

This doesn't happen while I'm driving, and the only time I've heard it is on cold startup while it's warming up, but I have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

I just noticed the other day mine does that too on cold (very cold) startups. High frequency squeal, fades in and then fades out. Happens a couple times and then goes away altogether.

I just blew it off until I saw this post. One thing I've learned about 05+ mustangs (this is my third) is they make ALL KINDS of strange noises when it's cold out, and never the same ones from day to day. Apparently they don't like being cold because it all goes away when the spring comes...

Well I'm finding out about the cold fast but I was just wondering because it didn't sound like a belt noise, so I wondered if the oil pump was having issues. But it's brand new! So I was a little distressed.

Isn't TMS just a wonderful place to ease your anxiety!

Mine did it too. I put a bit of belt dressing on the serp belt and the noise went away.

Yeah I have the same thing, sounds like someone blowing over an empty bottle for about 5 seconds right after I start up cold. 5 months / 7k miles here.

That's exactly it! Usually only when the temp is at least pretty cool and the car's been sitting all night.

Good to know it's not just me I guess. Has anyone else tried the belt dressing fix?

Same here, only when the car is cold, much more prominent if the ambient temp is below 50*, as well. Don't notice it at all in the summer.

It makes a lot of racket on cold starts (-15 F) if I don't plug it in, but not anymore than any other car I've had.

Mine makes a wierd vibration/whir noise right when i start light acceleration in the deep cold. It's a Mustang...it makes wayy too many random other noises anyways, not too concerned about the ones when all the materials are -20 degrees.

Same noise here. I'll have to get some belt dressing and give it a shot.
